My vet told me that BML wasn't the best diet for my gliders. She recomended Glider Grub as their staple. It is a long pellet. I don't know if she was telling me this to get me to buy some from her or what. Has anyone heard of this stuff? Is it a good food for them?

I have, but its like feeding a person only the bare minum to survive and I imagine it tastes like crud too. I think she's saying that because its marketed. I dunno. I'd look it up and see what the nutritional status of it was before you buy any and if your thinking about switching diets, look up some other ones too. The Pet glider diet is a really good and I've heard nothing but rave reviews about Suncaost's diet.

I read that you should put a dish of a staple food in the cage for in-between snacks (with BML or other diet as their main source of nutrition) - I mixed some pellets from a pet store with Suncoast's staple food - they pick the Suncoast food out to nibble on during the day and totally ignore the other "brand." I haven't tried any of the other staple foods yet.

I haven't really heard about glider grub. But can tell you I have had my gliders on Judies version of BML for 4 years now. My vet always marvels at how healthy they are. Asked for the diet we feed and now passes it out to her other clients that come in with gliders that are not so hot looking.

I've heard of and seen it, and it's results. First, it's a very hard pellet (looks like dog food with about the same hardness)..and hard pellets aren't good for gliders. Second, every rescue I've had come to me on it stank like nothing I can describe! IMO I wouldn't use or recommend it, but that's my opinion (since I have had issues with gum/jaw infections-frequently caused by hard, dry foods), AND would rather smell the natural musky glider odor rather than the horrendous stench gliders on that food have (it took me over a month on the BML or Ensure to get rid of that awful smell). That's just my opinion, tho.

I got a container of Glider Grub when I first got Keiko back in 2002. Before I found this board (and made my first batch of BML), she was eating it for about a month. The guaranteed analysis states 22.0% crude protein (min.), 9.0% crude fat (min.), and 4.0% crude fiber (max.).

The first ingredient listed is dehulled soybean meal, followed by corn, flour, wheat middlings, fructose... There are lots of ingredients I can't pronounce. Reading the label is actually kind of scary!

Even if you soaked it in apple juice or something to soften it, it just doesn't seem as healthy as some of your other choices.

You don't need to leave food out during the day. My three gliders sleep in my bra all day and unless I wake them to give them a treat, or I'm eating something they smell and might enjoy (meat or fruit), they just sleep.
