I recently bought some of these to help clean out/disinfect the bottom of the boys' cage. it seemed like just wiping it down with soap and water or vinegar and water still left it pretty smelly.
so here's my ???
do you guys use these to wipe up leftover food and pee in the mornings?? is it safe to use without rinsing down afterward? do you think that the smell might cause them to overmark( i think this has been my problem henceforth)?

what are you guys using other than these to wipe down food grime? what about using them to get the sticky stuck bml off your walls??

it seems like every week more and more food gets stuck to the cage bars. i made kitchens and the boys take the food OUT of them so they can still make their mess!

thanks for your help

Yes, I love the wipes. I clean the cages down a bit while they are a sleep and it drys really fast, I don't rinse it off I just let it air dry. I have something hanging on the wall behind the cages so the food does not get on the walls.

I use them to wipe out the drop pan of the cages and spot clean inside the cage throughout the week. I know others have used them for years without wiping after them wihtout problmes, but if you are concerned about any residue or smell leftover, you can always follow up with a wipedown of a wet towel. I personally use them everymorning right after my gliders go to bed so it has all day to dry before my gliders get up. I don't have any problems with overscenting, but I only wipe down one or two sides of the cage each day so most of the cage still smells like them.

For cleaning BML off the walls, your best bet is to either use a cage cover that you can wash each week or hang something on the walls that you can either take down and wash (a sheet, piece of fleece, etc.) or wipe down (shower curtain, etc.). For the BML already n there, I've found the Clorox Erasers work really well.

Also, for the kitchens, I'm not sure how yours is made, but I know with the ones I've used, it is best to use a big enough container that the gliders can easily sit beside the food dish. Otherwise they'll do like you said and just grab food and run back out...totally defeating the purpose. But if you use a large enough container they are more likely to sit inside and eat.

[:"green"]I use the Lysol Kitchen Wipes quite regularly and then allow to air dry. I also have used the Scotty Scrubbing Wipes on the cage bars to get accumulated BML, urine, etc. off of them & again, I allow to air dry. Never had any problems with doing this.

As for the kitchen, definitely try a larger kitchen to see if that helps. Look for the Fun Box by Sterilite in the medium size. The advantage of the Fun Box is that it already has holes in the sides for "hand holds" that are perfectly sized for the gliders to crawl in & out of - so no drilling and no sanding is necessary. Simply flip the box upside down over the lid with the food dishes inside!

As for the BML on the walls, you can use the Scotty Scrubbing Wipes to get it off (unless the walls have flat paint on them - then I would 'spot check' a small area first to make sure the paint doesn't come off along with the BML!)

I use the Clorox Wipes, I use them in the the morning right after I put him in his bonding pouch with me so it has all day to air dry....they're harmless as long as you allow an adequate amount of time to dry completely......

thanks so much guys!

i have some fleece that i put over their cage last week, and im slowly getting that leftover bml off the walls!!!

as far as the kitchens go, i will deffinately get a bigger container! at first i had the kitchen i was using as a little toy box sorta thing, filled with straws and bells and balls and stuff then when i read about the kitchens i tried converting it! looks like its gonna be a toy again cause the boys LOVED hiding in their with their little treasures!! haha

To gett splatters of BML off your kitchen wall easy... I just use a spray bottle with water in it.. spray it and let it soak for a few mins, then go with a rag and wipe it over. Repeat if it is a sticky spot until it is cleared!

I use the clorox wipes as well and just love the convience they offer. However, sometimes I go the cheapskate route and spray the cage with a vinegar/water mixture and wipe it down with paper towels after it has set for a while. I love both options and it is great to have a back-up in case you forget to get more wipes when you run to the store.

I started using the wipes to clean in between washing them in the backyard with a hose. I also have a blanket or some such piece of cloth draped over the back of the cages to keep them from flinging food against the walls - they don't grab it and pull it in the cage or anything - fortunately, mine are droppers, not flingers.

They're best for giving a wipe down between cleanings, but I personally don't think they should replace the major cleanings on the cage. I still hose my cages down and scrub with vinegar and soap every other weekend.

When using I wipe down the bottom grate, drop pan, wheels, and one side of the cage each morning. THe next morning I do the same thing but wipe down a different side of the cage.

[:"green"]I agree... using them "ïn between" cleanings is best, but not as the sole cleaning method.

I use Clorox wipes all the time with my cages. If you use them during the day and the cage is completely dry when your gliders get up, you should have no problems.

I wouldnt use Chlorox, I mean even if its dry what would hppen if the glider licked the cage I mean have you ever licked somhing you just put chemicals on after it dried? I hope not but once on accident I had chemicaks on my fingers and (bad habbit) but I chew my nails so yeah. I am not 100$ sure whats in baby whipes I think they would work well that or a hot rag. I may not be 100% correct but this is what I believe I mean the chemicals are allways there even after there dry and chlorox is a pretty strong chemical.

Chase, the clorox wipes do not have actual Bleach in them so no need to worry about the bleach. As long as these types of wipes are used in the day time they will be dry come night and will not be any threat to the gliders. I have been using these wipes for three years now. But you are right, if one is using a bleach/water solution, it must be rinsed very well.

Believe it or not, a physician once told me that a child could drink Clorox and have a stomachache but not be injured. I wouldn't recommend it though. I'm glad to hear that the wipes are safe - I was concerned about the ammonia (urine) and bleach combination that produces unsafe fumes.

I'm with Chaser. I watched a consumer report on household cleaning products a few years ago and they said that the clorox wipes were one of the most "unhealthy" things you could clean with. (Pledge was up there too, not that we would use it it our cages, but...)

Costco's Kirkland brand has good scrubbing wipes. I use them to wipe down the cages between cleanings. They work great. But I always go over them with a damp paper towel afterwards, just in case. The gliders like to watch me clean the cages so sometimes they run around when I'm done and I don't want to take any chances.
