After a topic was brought up about videos and our policy to not link to sites like youtube due to our younger membership we talked about adding a video section to GliderCENTRAL.

We have been working hard making sure we try to do this right. The video section will be purely education and informational videos in all aspects of sugar gliders.

We are still working on buttoning up loose ends in the new section so it is not being made available yet. We wanted to announce this so those who want to contribute can start gathering some videos.

As discussed in this post , this will not be a free for all video upload. To make it easier, be consistent, and so we can screen the videos prior to them going on the site, anyone wanting to contribute their videos will send them to me.

We will add the video, we will credit the person(s) for each video, and we will be watermarking the videos like we do in the gallery. When we are ready we will announce this and will also have something written up on how to get your video added.

We hope that this is a welcomed addition and one that will be a valuable tool for the entire community. Please let us know what you think.

Yes, would DEFINITELY help see and deal with issues as they come up. Seeing how OTHER gliders act in a situation can help a frame of reference.

Can't wait, Eddie....this will be a fantastic addition to GC!

GREAT idea!!

May I just suggest now - as this might quickly get way out of hand! - that the video section is broken into different sub-forums, the way the rest of GC is?

So educational videos, emergency videos, sounds videos and "Look how adorable my gliders are" videos can be easily located. Just a suggestion....

Those are off-the-top-of-my-head sub-forum suggestions. I'm sure you guys would do a much more professional job of it!

This little member of the choir says "AMEN, Gliderdad!!!!!!" I so like how you're thinking there!

It's almost scary how many people could benefit from having BOTH sides of this in video format...I was just trying to tell a fairly new person how to adjust the shotglass e-collar & what's too tight or too loose. Hmmmmmm...maybe somebody out there who's going to the SGGA would like to be Cora's and my "camera-person" on at least the putting on part? And it would be SMART to have several in case batteries go kaput at some point or another!

Oh great idea Denise, Surely there will be some takers!!! I will even make a satellite collar right before your very eyes if need be!! and we can show how to cut the velcro type collars to fit so bottom incisors dont get stuck on the velcro! Denise probably knows how to make a shotglass collar (I only used one once and I didnt make it). Spencer will be more than happy to "ham it up" for y'all!! He lives in a collar so he doesnt care!!!

Thank you. I posted this in the thread that started all of this last night

Unfortunately, there was so much background noise it couldn't be used and our schedules never allowed us to re record in a quieter setting.

To me, a how to on putting an e-collor on (both single & by 2 people) is probably the most single invaluable video we can have. So I am asking now, for someone or group of people get together and make that video happen.

I am hoping to have everything wrapped up by the weekend or end of week and make it public.

If you have one sooner that is always better. As we all know, it may be needed before the SGGA. This does not mean you can't make a new one at the SGGA.

There will be times that there will be a few videos on the same topic as things can and are done differently wink

I already added one video to the video section on the birth of gliders. Very special one I think as it shows dad helping out which is rare.

I will have to look to see if I still have your videos. If they are accessible to you easily, can you email me them. I would greatly appreciate it. I am in the middle of working on a few things for GC right now.

i'm excited about this! & having more than one video teaching us how to do stuff(as putting on the e collars)would be a good thing.if someone can't get it on w/one video, they can see another video, from someone else, that would have a different way to do it.

Yep its awesome, Bet Bourbon wishes there would have been a video/videos for me 2 and a half years ago when she was trying to explain over the phone to Laura and I (three way)how to apply a shotglass collar to Spencer at 1 oclock in the morning the first time he mutilated. And I know there are so many other stories like mine!

Just wanted to mention that it would be good to also have a glider that's never worn an e-collar before too! I don't Spencer's reaction to having one put on, but I know that a glider that's not used to it will thrash around for a bit. It's very helpful to know that this is a normal reaction and the owner shouldn't panic when they see this behavior. Also good to show the color of the nose, signs that the collar is too tight, too loose, etc.

We would also like a video demonstrating how to do the tent test on a glider to determine whether or not it may be dehydrated.

For many people it is hard to visualize what is being posted.

I agree.

Karen,
That's a great idea to have the tent test video posted. I made a video of me doing the tent test on my girls and posted it back when they were new and not eating much. It's not very clear what's normal when you can't see it.

Shelly, I completely agree with you on your thoughts...that's why I'm volunteering Rikki to be one of the "models" (and I know I'm going to end up regretting it for all the bites & scratches I'll end up with). He's NEVER had an e-collar on, he is NOT very people-friendly, and it's gonna be SOMETHING ELSE to watch and record.

I hope nobody will think any LESS of me if I bring along a pair of leather gloves to put on after the third or fourth time I'm doing the demo..... frown
