Cora, were you around when Saranfox(sp) (Donna) used to post? She is the one who helped the vets create the Ensure diet, called the Darcy diet after a glider that had cancer... anywho, the reason I ask is I remember a post one time she made of her gliders actually having a snack on drone bees....so yea, I could see them eating honey in the wild if available.

Is there any danger in the raw honey? I ask because one diet (I cannot remember where i saw it) said specifically not to feed raw honey. Also I will just say that it seems clear from all everyone has added that gliders truly are opportunistic omnivores! There may be one diet that is perfect for them, but regardless they seem to be thriving on the many different diets that we feed them. They seem to be very adaptable creatures, nutritionally speaking.

And Chris, I love your diet too, it is a bit closer to the blended with the less honey and your breeding breaks are VERY interesting! I would love to hear long term how your gliders do; if they live longer than anyone else's, can breed for more years before retirement or have any other health advantages from this. Please keep us posted! And if you already have some impressive results please share!

Well.....since I've been feeding this way...I've had triplets born in the same cage back to back..I didnt need to supplement until the other momma ran out of room herself to help out..and then it was more of a break n socializing/handling of the joeys more than anything... Because I feed this way joeys get taken out nightly from 6 weeks on so that they can get their " breeder/joey" version of HPW while the parents get the non- breeder formula so as to deter them from breeding back to back...Not to mention it makes for super sweet joeys My oldest pair, Peeka and Boo, are 8 years old and still super healthy/active. She had her last joey at 6+ years old after I had already neutered her partner by about 6 months.

Darcy's diet and the Ensure diet are two different things. What Donna was feeding to Lord Darcy is way more than what the ensure diet is. Honey...I don't feed honey AT ALL to my gliders. (I feed Reep's diet and have for almost 6 years now). My oldest glider is over 13 yrs old, his mate over 11 yrs. They are both going strong and healthy. They had a total of 12 joeys, their first set was triplets (then alternated between singles and twins for the rest of them).

Very informative posts! Thank you Marz as always! Chris, I use raw natural honey also (not processed) and my gliders love it, it doesn't taste anything like the stuff at the grocery store!
