We eat fish occasionally, either mahi or tuna. Does anyone know if its safe or healthy to feed gliders fish?

I give my gliders tuna from time to time. I read somewhere that it's okay and they really seem to enjoy it. I would watch for sea food high in iodine though...

[:"blue"]Some gliders do like tuna (unfortunately none of mine ). Whitefish is also all right as long as it is prepared with no seasoning.

Tuna, of course, doesn't have to be prepared but if you are eating whitefish of any kind, you can always just boil a little for the glider/s. [/]

Can you give them tuna from the can? In water, I would think....? I have never tried it before....what nutrition does it give them? What about Salmon? It's a hit with the humans, but would it be good for the gliders??

Wow...too cool, I love hearing about new stuff to try out on my furrbies..:)

Thanks!

Yup Melissa...Mya eats tuna packed in water every now and then... sometimes she just likes to throw it out of the bowl , but sometimes she will eat it. Its a good source of protein... (I dont feed it too much, because of the sodium, but its good every now and then!)

Salmons good too! Mya likes fish most the time... (Tony did too ) Havent tried it with Buddy yet.
Mya's eaten, Crappie, Bass, Tuna, Salmon, WhiteFish, Ummm I cant remember any others (off the subject, but shes also enjoyed shrimp and lobster) .

Tuna's a great protein source, but you shouldn't feed it from a can. They sell tuna in a pouch now, it tastes much fresher and is better for them. As a rule of thumb never feed gliders food from cans, as it generally has more sodium, sugar and preservatives.

I thought tuna in a pouch had the same amount of sodium as the stuff in a can? I don't eat it much so I don't know...

Actually feeding tuna packed in water in the can IS better for them than feeding from the new tuna pouch's... (altho' Ill have to admit, the pouched tuna is alot yummier...lol! )

Tuna packed in water in the can has far less sodium, cholesterol, calories, and half the fat of pouched. (canned does have a little less protein content than the pouched, but its still a very good source of protein.)
Starkist Tuna does make a 'low sodium' tuna in the can as well...
