Philip, Lillian, and Oscar will be due to go in for their checkups coming up very soon. When I take them in I want to talk to my vet about possibly switching my gliders to the PML diet due to their lack of interest in regular BML. Yes, I've tried everything to get them to stay interested in it. They will eat it sometimes but mostly they just eat their fruits and veggies and only a few little licks of the BML. All others are doing wonderful on the BML, but these picky little stinkers are so finicky. I've tried Judie's BML, icing it, going back to basics, etc... I've tried for over a year to get these 3 to stick with a healthy diet and they only stay interested for about a month before going back to just the fruits and veggies. So now that I'm at my wit's end and I'm hearing such success with the PML diet my curiosity is up. Before I take this diet in to my vet for her approval I want to be certain I have it right. In another thread Pockets says that the following is the recipe for the PML mix:

Quote:

"Pockets Modified Leadbeater's"

Warm Water - 450ml (bottled only)
Honey - 400ml
Shelled-boiled eggs - 2 (egg-land's best organic)
Wombaroo High Protein Supplement - 30 grams

I mix the warm water & honey, then add the eggs blend & then add the Wombaroo High Protein Supplement & blend

I am able to change the protein level very easily by adding or subtracting amount in "PML" & I do (will explain at later date)

NOTE: Wombaroo High Protein Supplement contains more than "TWICE" the protein as High Protein Cereal so less than half is needed

This part I understand I think...I'll have to figure out how to convert the amounts, but that's no problem. What I need to know is, what type of fruits and veggies are to be fed with PML? Is it like BML where the Ca:Ph ratio makes up for the lack of calcium in the fruits and veggies? Or do you have to only feed fruits and veggies with positive Ca:Ph ratios? Do my babies have to give up their beloved corn all together? Also, what amount of mealies or other protein should be given if any? I have already ordered the Bee Pollen and Acacia Gum from BigErn and I'm awaiting a call from Geoff from Perfect Pets as we speak about the HPW. I'm really hoping my vet will approve since I've already ordered most of the supplies. Anyway, I would appreciate any input on this diet from only the people who are currently using it. I don't want a debate....only facts or tips since I will be taking this to my vet for approval. If you have reason why you disagree with this diet please do not post here but you are welcome to send me a PM. I will be glad to listen to your concerns through PM. I know how volatile these diet threads can become with just one cross statement. I'd hate to have to shut down my own thread.

BTW, if you all have the time I'd love to have a print out of the diet EXACTLY how you feed it...maybe an example of what you'd serve your gliders along with the PML.

Oops...almost forgot. Pockets also states:

Quote:

I use a tiny bit of Neocalglucon weekly

How much exactly and where is the best place to find this?

Rischa, I have taken all the things that I currently feed to my vet and he looked it over and checked it out for over a week before telling me his thoughts on it.

The bottom line, he says, is this is the best thing in his opinion next to sliced bread!

He did tell me to add in one tablespoon of the Eucalyptus Bee Pollen and to either add some acacia gum to the pml (which my gliders did not really appreciate much) or to just sprinkle it on their food, which I do, and they do eat it like that. I use the same amount of veggies, but have noticed they dont eat near as much of them now, and I also give them some home grown flowers on occassion, some mazuri and nekton, all being rotated on different nights, also dont forget the mealies!! The kids would go crazy if they didnt have them, however, the past week, they did get a special treat....A couple June Bugs to catch!!

Smart idea running it past your vet though to see what he thinks, as each glider is different.

This is how I feed it - and I just weighed my gliders yesterday, all have gained between 7 - 15.5g in the past 2 weeks! Yay! I've also noticed a difference in their coats, they are all very "silky" looking. Zoe used to always look pretty "grungy", but now she looks like the princess she is!

450mL Honey
450mL Water
3tsp Ensure
1/4 Cup Wambaroo HPS

Fruit mix is generally: papaya (the big uns), mango, apple, peach, watermelon, honeydew. Maybe once every 2-3 weeks they get avacado.

Veggie mix is generally: carrots, corn, peas, squash, parsley.

I also feed a scrambled egg mix (thus the lack of egg in the Leadbeater's Mix)

Egg mix:

8 Eggs
1T Bee Pollen
1T Acacia Gum
1T Hemp Hearts

I feed this alternating with my mealie farm - when I have mealies, I use egg in the Leadbeater's Mix & don't feed the egg mix, then I add the 3 extra supps to the other foods. When I don't have mealies, they get the eggs.

They also get yogurt & Nekton Sugar Glider about 3 times a week + fresh roses every night.

Thanks Peggy and Gina! I was hoping you two would come along and give your answers. Also, thanks Peggy for talking to me more about it on MSN. You helped answer a lot of my questions.

Guess I'll have to find out how to turn one of my thumbs green so I can start trying out roses for my babies. I've been wanting to do that anyway. Do you give the suggested amount of Nekton that's on the back of the package?

Pockets, if you have any thoughts you'd like to share I'd love to hear them. I plan to make the appointment with the vet for next week, so the more info I have for her the easier it will be for her to make her decision on this diet. Specifically, the Neocalglucon that you give weekly, is it the syrup form that you can find at Walgreens or other pharmacies? If so, how much and how often?

LOL - I make my hubby grow the roses! I thought I had a green thumb when we lived in Japan, but it turns out, everything grows well in Okinawa! LOLOL! I can't make anything grow here, so he does it for me! He thinks it's neat to grow "baby food"!

I don't give as much Nekton as suggested on the container. Nekton says 1/3 Cup + 4T per glider; however, you're not supposed to feed them solid food on the nights you give the Nekton. I don't like the idea of not offering solid food! So, I just make one batch (1/3 Cup + 4T) and split it between 2 cages.

I have alot of questions about all this too. For some reason, after 6 years of being on my diet, all of a sudden, my gliders don't want to eat it. That is all 22 gliders! I am going to throw out this batch and make a new one to see if maybe there is just something about this batch that isn't pleasing to them.

I too have some of the samples from Ern but as of yet, have no idea if/how to use them. They may just end up as treat foods.

Definately time for indepth research!

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.

I've got roses galore right now. They are good for gliders? What are their nutritional values? Anything I need to know before I feed them?

Pockets hasn't been around? You guys should probably just compile a list of questions and then just email her with them. I think she may be burned out on the dietary controversy? I could be wrong maybe she's just busy

Yep, she's just busy. She PMed me this morning and said she wants to answer questions in this thread as soon as she gets some time. I look forward to hearing from her.

I'm not sure about the nutritional value, but I'm sure someone else can answer that one. I'd be sure there are no pesticides on the roses before feeding them to your wee ones, though. Also, send me some roses over if you have so many...just teasing.
