This post is in regards to some questions that have been coming into my mind.

It is because of the people talking about all the foods that can cause gas.
What I would like to know, is even though we know that these foods cause gas, how do we know for a fact that a sugar glider can not pass gas, therefore it is always recommended that we should not feed these foods?

Granted, it may not be reasonable to give them foods such as beans, broccoli and such on a daily basis, but wouldnt the fiber foods help to *clean out their systems* a little better?

Is there a documented article or information somewhere that would make us so sure that our gliders should not have these foods?

I have been trying to do some research on different areas relating to our furball family members, and I can not find anything, other than us posting, saying that they should not have these foods. So just hoping someone can help me out with this area.

Peggy, I have often wondered the same thing! I will scout around too and see if I can come up with something. I know in the past I have given mine things that I later found out were "gassy" and quit. However, before I read they were gassy, I never noticed any problems! No constipation or anything like that. Very interesting subject!

I'm curious about this also. And I too have researched and couldn't find anything other than posts saying they can't pass gas.

Same here. My gliders love broccoli and I do feed it to them on occasion. Never had any problems here. I don't feed lima beans but that is because I think they are disgusting! If I won't eat them, I'm not feeding them to my kids!

(Mealies and other assorted bugs are the exception)

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.

Don't know for sure about gliders not being able to pass gas. It has long been believed that mice cannot pas gas. Some people would sit containers of Coca Cola around for the mice to drink. The story goes that the mice would drink the coke and then become bloated and die. Maybe this is where the idea came from about the gliders not being able to pass gas.

Oh, gliders can pass gas, I know that for a fact! Before I joined GC, I fed Brodey broccoli a few times, but I had to stop because it gave him awful gas. I don't think he minded too much, but my lordy bee, did it smell horrible. He would sit on my shoulder and let one rip and it would just about make me throw up. I feed my gliders broccoli, calliflower, and various breans from time to time even still, but I try to limit the quanity so I don't have to smell their stinky little behinds...

Leyna!!! I have to admit I've never known my gliders to 'let one rip'!! But I was surprised when I heard one of my cotton top tamarins farting!! - Not smelly, just frequent!!

Hehe this would make my husband laugh.
I suppose that most animals can and do pass gas with the occasional exception. Maybe the mice just couldn't burp
I have never noticed my kids farting. I would think that having gas might become uncomfortable for them just like it does us on occasion but with Leyna's little one "letting one rip" I don't think we have to worry about that anymore now do we?
Such a funny topic

My my my. I had no idea that people thought broccoli and beans might be bad for gliders.

Mine LOVE broccoli and beans. They're part of a frozen veggies mix I picked up at the grocery store ... our store had all sorts of "assortments" and I was looking for one that didn't contain corn. Has quite a few beans, broccoli, carrots, all kinds of stuff like that. I haven't especially noticed the gliders being gassy recently, but I'll admit that my work load has been such that we haven't had a whole lot of play time in the last few weeks. They usually get to run around the room for an hour or two in the morning while I'm getting ready and an hour or two at night before I go to bed.

I'm thinking now that maybe I've experience the glider [censored] without realising it - Dinx was on my shoulder last night when an awful smell suddenly wafted past - this has happened before but I just thought she was doing a smelly poo, but there was no poo!!!! Hmmmmm, lol
