I know that some neutered males do still mate, however I am curious as to how common it is...

I have three neutered males --
Munch - 2 in August or September
Sammy - was oop December 2010
Max - Sammy's younger brother, oop in early January 2011

Munch has no interest in mating - never has.

Sammy has a BIG interest in mating, and when Monk (my girl) goes into heat, he's all over her -- which seems to please her, as she'll force herself back under him if he decides to stop for a minute.

Max is still young, but thus far, has displayed absolutely no interest in mating.

So -
those of you with neutered males, do they still mate?

Also, I'm wondering, around what age do males most often start mating?

Four months ago we had one of our males neutered. He was absolutely obsessed with his girl. When mating time came, they made no secret about it, they could go all night. Two months after his neuter, to our surprise, he had NO interest in mating at all. Kaida, his girl, would do the mating call desperately, hopping up and down, running to the pouch, hiss bark, running up to him, begging him, but no reaction from Kaimon. This craziness repeats itself every time Kaida is in her heat cycle and is hilarious. Eventually she will drag him by his feet to get his attention for a little mating, but nothing!

Bandit was neutered very young and has shown no interest whatsoever. The guy's got a harem but I think the snip-snip took away all of his manhood. Poor little monkey shakehead

I've noticed that when males are neutered fairly young they will not show interest in maiting but I do have males that were neuterd over a year old and they do go thru the motions still.

That's sort of what Monk used to do before I brought home Sammy and Max -- she'd do mating calls like crazy all night long, trying to get Munch to mate with her. The most Munch would do is sniff her bottom.

She'd bark, he'd run to her, sniff her bottom, and then go back to whatever he was doing before. He seems relieved to be off the hook now.

That's what I had always been told, too -- when males are neutered young, there is less chance of them being interested.

But, Sammy's only 5 months old, and was neutered before he came to me.
