I am confusd about the whole WF breeding thing lol.

I have a male who's Gparents and parents are all WF. Then i have his mate that had a wf parent and a normal parent, as well as a grandmother that had a WT. She is now pregnant with 2 joeys. What are the chances that one or both of these babies could be WF? If any? Im very new to the color breeding, and this will be my only babies from this pair, so im just curious laugh

Are either your male or female WF?

Yea, I was under the impression you needed only one WF to produce WF babies. I thought only 1 needed to carry the trait. Am I wrong? I am probably getting a little WFB in July, I planned on putting him with my little girl Jynxie.

If the male is wf, their joeys each have a 66% chance of also being wf.

I have a wf male with a normal color female also, they have had babies 3 times so far and 3 have been wf only 1 has been normal coloring.

Now with my 2 gen wf gliders all of their babies have been wf. But they still could have a normal baby even though the chances are lower for this.

So is the gene dominant then...? Autosomal dominant? So maybe Cora, in your situation, if we say W is the white face gene, your gliders might be Ww and Ww, which makes them both have a white face, but every time they breed, there is a 1/4 chance their joey will not have a white face?

66% chance eh? im feelin kinda lucky LMBO I dont care what they are, as long as they are healthy. BUT with saying that, i am really really hoping for a WF baby boy to add to my pair of boys (Scooter and Slevin) to mix it up a bit.

Does the percent increase or decrease if the mother is WF and the father is normal?

Cora, that baby is gorgeous! maybe because yours produced a normal, mine will give me a wf(or 2)? lol

Ok, now what about the WT? any chance of that or just wishful thinking. How does that gene work, do both parents have to be hets/carriers or just one?

A 1st generation wf and a normal will produce 66% wf babies in their lifetime of breeding. The more white faces you have in the geneology, the higher the % of wf joeys should be. If both parents are wf, the number of wf joeys should be a little higher. Two 2nd generation wf parents will produce even more than that and so forth. The average % of these pairing has not yet been calculated.

WT is an interesting gene. My chukha is a wfb and normal tail. His father had a white-tip tail. Out of the 4 babies (two sets) Chukha has had so far, two have had white tips. But the two sets of joeys were with different moms. As far as I know, neither mom has white tip in their family history.

It is believed that both parents don't necessarily have to be carriers - just one.

You can breed a pair of gliders that both have the white tip tails and they may only have white tip het babies.

But these babies may have babies with the white tip tail. This seems to be what commonly happens.

To answer your question directly, there is a chance one or both of your joeys will have a white-tip tail.

Also, a glider is considered having a white-tip tail even if only a few strands of the hair/fur is white. Some have more or less.

Can you see the white hairs on the wfb in this picture??? grin

Dont feel bad we all do that. every time I see my sweeties are going to pop out so to speak i get so excited. Seeing babies and knowing what is ahead is all the fun and joy. cool Oh and as from what i have been told the white face gene is actually codominate. 66% chance of getting WF babies if you have atleast one wf parent. and yes as above the more wf you have in the background the higher chances are of having wf babies. as with the WT gene no one has figured it out yet as to why it happens or when. I have been told of gliders having WT babies with NO traces of the WT gene in the backgrounds. So it all depends.
