Ok, so I sent off for my license kit from the USDA. What I got was not what I was expecting. One of the things I got was a Canine Care Checklist. It lists off what inspectors look for for those breeding and selling DOGS. Is there a different one for gliders????? If so, would someone PLEASE email me a copy of it?

Also, what all do I really need? I have the Animal Care sheet that is for the vets info which I assume we skip over the dog and cat part and just fill out the Exotic Animals part.

They also sent me a "Exercise Plan for Dogs" sheet. I think maybe the USDA got confused???

Would someone please help me figure this all out? Thanks!

I only have my two wfbs that are going to (I hope) breed and I don't even know IF I am ever going to sell any of the joeys. But with the rescues I take in, my understanding is I have to have a breeder's license to rehome them. I'm so confused...

First off, don't panic.. I think it's a sick game the USDA likes to play on us.

As for the dog sheets, I'm not sure why you got those. I got some random stuff in with my packet but I don't think I got a lot of dog stuff. I can tell you there is no checklist for gliders, if you ask, they will probably have no clue what you are talking about.

You need the animal care sheet --> fill out the exotic part. And then your application. Then you'll need to have your vet come out and fill out the sheet before they come do your initial inspection.

You have to have a license to sell/rehome gliders if you have more than 3 breeding pairs. If you have less, there is currently no penalty. I also know many inspectors won't even license you unless you have four breeding pairs.

see, I only have one potential breeding pair and that is Gianna and Marcell who are still to young to breed.

The rest of the males are all neutered but I do have a total of 24 gliders. (12 males, 12 females)

I would not worry about getting a license or maybe get the name of your local inspector and ask them to be sure. You might be able to get by b/c I believe the "technical" rule states you need a license if you have 4 or more breeding females... I guess that's where that lovely gray USDA line comes in.

Yipes! Well, then, I am right in that same boat... so scoot over...

Only three of mine have had babies: Reese, Tink, Loki... and their mates are neutered. Maybe it's best to get licensed so that it's "better safe than sorry"? We all know how CLEAR these USDA rules are... (remembering back to last year's SGGA).

That what I understood the rule to be, if you had 3 or more un altered females, they would be considered as a female that can breed even if in different cages, so you would need a License. Like stated above would be best to check with your local inspector, even than it may be wrong.

inspectors pretty much can interpret the rule any way wanted.... so you can pay the app fee and possibly be denied.. just depends on the inspector.. however, there are different ways to phrase things to get what you want
