So, I am wanting to consolidate the cages in my home.

I have 2 cages. One is a Brisbane cage and the other is a large PVC home built cage. The PVC cage is a real pain to clean. I have had it now for 4 years and I think it's holding odors more and more.

I am thinking a stackable cage would be nice. Of course I would like it to also be nice on my wallet. I know the A&E cages are great. But, their double stacked cages are over $350. Which is quite an investment.

I am thinking this one might work: large stackable bird cage

Is "wrought iron" safe???

Are meaning to keep them in separate cages still then?

I've looked at a cage similar, but was a tall single cage with the powder coated wrought iron. It is I believe a safe cage from all I can tell.

Why not get another Brisbane cage. You can stack that on the other Brisbane cage.

To do that you would take one of the braces that the cage sits on off the stand and let the bottom cage sit on the shelf.

You will need to zip tie the cage to the stand, you then place the second cage on top of the first and zip tie them together.

Yes - they still have to be kept separate. The PVC cage is such a pain to clean. Plus, I would like to free up some space.

Feather - If that will work, that's a great idea!

Has anyone does this (any pics you can share)? Did it work well? The cart held both of them up okay? I don't want a cage falling on my head. :rofl2:

This is the cage I have now: http://www.exoticnutrition.com/brsuglca.html

There have been owners that combined two Brisbane cages into one large cage by flipping the top cage upside down and removing the "top" of both cages and using zipties to connect the two cages.

The resulting cage is very tall and some owners found the upper cage too high to reach the upper parts of the cage with out a step ladder.

It may also be too tall to easily roll out a door to take the cage out side for a good cleaning now and then.

If you are going to keep the cages separate and just stack them, you will have the same issues reaching the upper cage - The BOTTOM of the upper cage, even if you remove the supports and place the bottom cage on the shelf of the stand, will be 4 feet off the floor and the top of the combined cage will be about 7 feet high. You may have some difficulty seeing your gliders when they are at the top of the cage and putting pouches and toys into the cage may be somewhat awkward.

You would need to zip tie the bottom cage to the stand to keep it stable once the upper supports of the stand are removed so you can lower the cage to the shelf.

That is what I do with mine.

With this set up you can cut the zip ties and take the top cage down for ease of cleaning. The double stack bird cage doesn't do that. I used to have one like that for my parrots and it was a pain to get outside, couldn't do it by myself.

I'm glad I made this post. Lots of things I didn't think about. I am thinking the stacking option is better than buying a double cage. In looking at the double cage, I didn't like the compromise on the height of each unit. I was feeling bad about that. I am already feeling bad about downgrading the gliders in the huge PVC cage to a smaller cage. frown

Feather - thanks for the pics! I needed a visual. thumb

I did not catch that the double cages are individually shorter than a Brisbane cage - when I looked again at the dimensions I also noticed the cages are also only 18 inches deep instead of the 22 inch depth of the Brisbane.

I have had cages that are only 18 inches deep and that loss of 4 inches really makes a cage feel crowded - if you mount a wheel on the side of the cage there is no room on either side of the wheel. Even a small plastic basket for a toy box crowds the cage floor.

The Brisbane cage size is the MINIMUM I would use for gliders and the double stack really does have much less volume.

The problem that I have now is getting my Custom Cruiser in my Brisbane cage. This has always been a struggle but it will be a double struggle with 2 Brisbane cages; in addition to the added height issue, lol!
