Been looking into making my own cage from PVC/Garden netting, however it looks as though most the info is outdated by a few years, last post was around 2012- Do people still make their own cages and is it safe?

The information isn't outdated but the cost of cages has come down over the years, and owners are not so much into the DIY as they once were. Making your own cage is lots of work, not to mention expense and time. Some people still prefer to go that route, but certainly not like in years past.

Just as the popularity of the gray gliders have dissipated, so have many of the DIY projects.

If you do want to build your own enclosure, the archived threads are still good.

I made my own cage for my suggies and I love it! It's the perfect size for my house and I was able to make it how I wanted. I highly suggest it if you don't like any of the cages you can buy smile

Love my furry kids! ^_^

After making a rough calculation of costs, I figured a $250 petsmart glider cage would be a lot cheaper. Then I made a 7 by 9 play room in the basement for them. In the end a larger cage is better, but you will be having some messy cleanup in large area. Very easy to clean petsmart sized cage. Ours is 6 feet tall, 3 feet wide and 2 feet deep.

Yes, cleaning seems to get overlooked on home made cages sometimes and it can be on drawback to them. Another I have heard of is that if you make it too large the gliders can get to parts of the cage that you can't reach them from the door to get them out if needed.
