I have had my rep since December and love it. I bought and extra cover so all I had to do was take one off and put the other one on. I usually wash the cover by itself since it's a 260 and pretty good size. I wash it with tide and the take it out to air dry. They seem to retain the scent of glider urine on them though. I tried putting a little white vinegar in the water but haven't gotten rid of it. I know there must be some kind of trick to completely get it out. I don't have this problem with their fleece or toys.

I have reptariums too and I know what you are talking about. I use them as travel cages and for emergency. Ummmm, I don't know if this would work as it is pretty strong itself, but I would think that some bleach should do the trick. My husband, Oldcolt58, read somewhere on this site a long while back that only 3% bleach would do an effective job of cleaning. If more bleach was added to water to make it more effective, then it would be a waste. Three percent bleach does the job well. That is the only thing I can think of to get rid of the smell from the reptarium covers. But then, gliders would just overmark the entire reptarium over again, to make it smell just the way they want it to. That is part of the reason I am not using reptariums as permanent housing.

Try using the new detergents with Febreze, or adding Baking Soda (a natural deodorizer-soak it in Baking Soda water for half an hour before washing), and see if that makes a difference. Both are much safer than bleach, as well, if that is a concern for you.

[:"blue"] I use detergent and then add a capful of the liquid febreze which really seems to make a big difference. I also put it through two complete wash cycles ... detergent and all [/]

I put the soap in the washing machine, and after it fills up with water, I let the rep soak for a little while. I wash mine with "All" detergent, and I set it on an extra rinse cycle. Then I let it air dry. I don't have a problem with the urine smell.

liquid febreeze is a dream!!!!!! it worked wonders when my cats would have "accidents" (IT WAS REVENGE! ) on my bed, sofa, or other furniture. PLus, from what I've noticed, cat urine is WAY more potent than suggie urine! The other thing that ive used to get rid of that icky, redundant smell is to get something from the pet store called Natures Miracle. Its a pretty darn good scent remover and it doesnt just mask the smell. i liked the formula that you add to your laundry as well.
good luck!

DON'T USE BLEACH with Reptariums, it breaks down the mesh and makes it brittle. Also, hot or very warm water will shrink the mesh (not a fun experience either).

That being said, I sometimes use Nature's Miracle laundry deteregent or Tide, but also use white vinegar AND liquid febreze for laundry (I know, it sounds like overkill, right?) But is seems to work for me. I also fill the washer with water/detergent/etc. and let the cover soak and then rinse it an extra time to make sure all of the detergent is out.
