Hey all...
Here's a question...

How long can a female glider store viable semen after mating?

It's a long time right? Tell me it's a long time.

Yeah...that's where I'm going. :-(

Man...I got Arrow to the doc 2 weeks *before* the earliest expected time he could become virile.

I did walk in on him in the bathroom with a tiny magazine, just a few days before the neuter...but...

REALLY? :-(

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm 90% sure that...bulge is just in the right place on momma.

Well...

If it is an incest baby, I'm not going to cull it. Not the little one's fault...I just worry for his/her health.

Add the list of noble names...Aria, Arrow, Athena...and...

Cletus...
Or maybe Lerlene...

Well...Alexander the Great was thought by some historians to be a child of incest. (You know how it was back then)
Maybe...Alexander...
Or Jethro...
Cooter
Roscoe
Banjo

I'm going to refuse to feel weird about this.
Animals don't play by the same rules as humans, and the little one is just as valid a person as anyone else.
So I'm just going to put it out of my mind and remember this is my problem, not the baby's
Yep...
There it is...
...
Out of my mind...just...gone.
Yep...
....
....
Sigh.

Ok...so 6...To many for a ninja team. Too many for a basketball team. Too few for baseball or football...
Ahhh...got it...

Sugar Squadron

I just hope the number of toes, fingers and heads is normal...
Doh...

It isn't the semen that is stored. It is the fertile eggs which can be stored in the female for quite some time. She determines when it/they will be released.

I learned that years and years ago after having a male neutered. Boy oh boy was I surprised shock

I like "Sugar Squadron". smile

Good for you and your... open-minded acceptance of this little surprise. Just one big happy (albeit maybe a little too close) family, right? wink

How long is quite some time though?

For this to be Justin's baby and not Arrow's baby, she would have had to be holding that egg since the time Athena was conceived, right?
And Athena was OOP Feb 1 ish....
Could they go that long? Basically Athena and Unknown-Joey would have been conceived at the same time. Is it possible for a female glider to hold ONE fertilized egg back until one joey is OOP? Then start letting the other one develop, so she only has to nurse feed one at a time?
She had a real hard time with trying to nurse two at the same time before.

From what I was told a very long time ago, yes that is possible for her to have conceived more joeys that she would have been able to raise at one time, thereby holding some of the fertile eggs in stasis until she was ready.

I will get someone with more knowledge than me to post here as well.

Females are capable of continuous breeding through a process called embryonic diapause, where a second embryo is kept in stasis until the first joey has left the pouch. It is not uncommon for a female to simultaneously have a one joey at foot, one in the pouch, and one in the womb. In fact, gliders have the ability to produce two different types of milk in order to care for offspring of different age classes.

That is amazing...
Wow, that changes the landscape too...

Thank you guys for the replies.

So most likely this is Justin's baby...delayed by mom so she would be sure she has enough milk to go around.

Thank you all again.
