Self mutilation can happen at any age however, it is most common during puberty. Please know that it can happen but sm is rare. Most common is caused by an injury. SM where they are attacking themselves for no apparent reason (usually their cloaca or abdomon) is even more rare but the most serious. If you suspect there is a problem, first get the glider where it can NOT hurt him/her self (ecollar, wrapped in fleece, something, anything) and then get the glider to the vet.

I could have missed the pain But I'd of had to miss the dance

SM scares me so much! I need to read more because I KNOW I have to be ready just in case, but I just cannot bring myself to read too much on it right now as I get totally scared to death <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Oh man, me too! Every time I hear a different sounding noise or even a normal noise that's louder than normal, I'm right there hovering at the cage forever.

I could see myself in tears if that happened to one of mine. I can't imagine wanting to do that to themselves. Are we any closer to finding a cause for this? Other than injury or infection?
Gee now I am crying just at the thought of it.
