Ok, so I went to vet today to get Flip checked out, and to get the catherder taken out. He is healing / has healed very well so far. And obviously with the catherder in, he peed perfectly. He does have a bit of adema ( swelling ) but vets weren't worried about it much. #1 thing i have to do is keep him CLEAN. This will help the adema as well as the healing process. Now, the problem with the last surgery is his opening "healed shut". This opening is bigger, and relocated in an attempt to avoid that. He is still VERY active. I took him out to clean him up some, and he took off running from me. Can you believe this? All this after only 2 days from hi pelvis / bladder surgery where he also had to have some muscles cut. It is amazing how quickly he gets his strength back. I have to keep giving him his Cipro, his antiseptic ointment, and pain medication ( only when really needed ). So at this I ask for your help and prayers. I am scheduled to go in a week from today to have another checkup. This next week will probably tell if Flip will or won't make it. If he doesn't, he has fought but will have to be put to sleep. If the opening stays open, doesn't heal shut, and he is able to pee thus not letting his bladder get huge again, he will live a long happy life. Pray for us some more...This next week is more essential then any other.

dont give up. not at this point. if the vet dont give up dont you. yes prayers do work miracles ive seen them firsthand. but, if i were u do whatever the vets say. you've gone this far. you might have a few more hurdles to go over. but as long as he's not suffering in pain. which if he's eating and running and healing well. all sounds good to me.

[:"blue"] Flip, you hang in there buddy. You have already probably surpassed all expectations your vet had for this outcome so far.

There are so many prayers and good thoughts coming your way. [/]

Well, Flip is now really in trouble. He has a severe case of Adema. He is really very swollen in the upper chest area. He is not getting a big bladder. But, dad being a doctor, and according to vet, he could be either A) leaking urine ( or something ) inside or B) just really infected. I am going to keep giving him his medicine. I can honestly say I am willing and at peace to just " let him go " at this point. He has fought like none other. It isn't really red, just really inflamed. I am going to wash him with a warm water bath, and that antibiotic 3 times a day. I am going to give him his Cipro orally from syringe. BUt anyhow, if he is going to get better, he should be by tomorrow. Really, very much seriously ticks the HE double hockey sticks out of me to think that after everything he has beat so far, a gosh darned blasted infection could kill him. If God is out there, need you here right now. We will see...FranciscoR

I have decided to send him to vet today if the vet calls me back in time. Instructions are to give hi medicine, and keep him overnight. If he is better by morning, good. If not, I am asking them to put him to sleep. Fact is, if he is having some sort of renal failure, I rather him die in peace rather then take several days or more. If he can't go until tomorrow, the instructions are still the same. He has fought a good fight. But if he is not better by tomorrow, it's better for him to die in peace rather then prolong it. Oh well, this is one of those decisions a pet owner has to make. I know some of you say you would want them to die in your hands, but I am not " built like that ". I truthfully can't / couldn't handle having him die here and then me having to deal with that. God knows i don't want to think it, but we all deal with death in our own ways. It doesn't matter how you deal with the death of a loved one. The only thing that matters is that you deal with it.

Oh, Francisco! This is so sad! I pray that the vet can help poor little Flip's condition make a turn for the better. If not, I pray that you find peace in knowing you did everything humanly and humanely possible, and Flip knows your love. I'm sure he feels the love from all of us. (And I hope you can feel it, too...)

The vet hasn't called back so I doubt he will be going today. If it's some tear in the urinary system, and not some infection, there's nothing else to do but wait, or have him peacefully put to sleep. I will take him in tomorrow if I should / can. They will observe him and do what they feel ( medication wise ) for Flip. But he's done with cutting and so forth. If he isn't better tomorrow, I don't see much use of keeping him there saturday unless vet is open sunday. But yeah, if they diagnose him with some sort of unfixable "thing", I have to decide how he is going to die, as well as where. And while we both feel the love and support of the sugar glider community, it still hurts a lot. At least he has fought this much and I hope his death, be it soon or far from now serves some greater purpose. I hope people are educated form his experiences. Well, talk to you later...Hopefully with good news.

p.s. Lord knows this has taken a heck of a toll on me. I am tired, appetite unsteady. Sheesh....moreso then I thought.

[:"blue"]Like everyone else, I am very saddened by this report and understand that your heart is breaking.

So many of us have followed Flip's progress, sent good wished and prayed very hard for his full recovery. Because of everything that you have allowed to be done in an effort to save him, there are now new procedures we didn't even know were possible for gliders.

I believe there comes a point when an animal is aware of what is going on, and that is what people mean when they say their pet "lets them know" when it is time. There also comes the time when we are at peace with the decision we must make.

While all of us still want Flip to recover fully, we know that the decision you will make will be in Flip's best interest. It would be impossible for you to make the wrong decision knowing how much you love him. [/]

Oh how heart wrenching. I can only imagine what you *much less Flip* is going through right now. Though we all are praying for his full recovery, we all are on your side for his well-being.

If God decides to take him from you.. there is always a reason. Many of us have learned a great deal with this case. Flip is a strong little critter! I have never heard of a glider surviving as long as Flip has with his condition.

Flip has put a mark on your heart and it will never fade if he should pass. Stay strong Flip...

It's the most unselfish, loving thing you can do for him at this point is to not prolong his suffering is that is what is going on. I am deeply saddened as to the outcome of Flip's progress. However, the body is only able to tolorate so much. I feel as you do....that it may be close to time to let Flip go. There is no need for him to suffer unneedlessly as death does come to us all. However, death does not mean he is gone...just in a better place where he will be healed and will free at last.

I do hope you will be able to see him one last time to say good byes. May God, help with your pain and sorrow and at the same time....may He ease Flip's transition to the other side should this be the time.

if flip were mine i would ask the vet what he thinks if the edema will or can drain. ask him what he thinks he would do if he loved the animal and it were his. i wouldnt just put him to sleep unless the vet says he would do so.

Well, Flip is on his way to vet now. I could know in as early as one hour whether I will " put him to sleep " or not. Or, it coudl take a day. Fact is I have learned nothing is certain with this little fighter. Whatever his outcome, I think he has served a good purpose in life. He has been an awesome pet, and through his illness educated many. Can't leave a better legacy then that.
