Make sure he is warm and hydrated and then get him to a vet!

He may become so dehydrated that just feeding him liquids might not be enough, he may need Sub-q fluids which any vet should be able to administer. However, he will probably need a glider knowledgeable vet to figure out what's going on with him. Do you have a glider knowledgeable vet? If not, check our Vet Database to see if there is one in your area. If you don't see one there, give us your location and someone may be able to direct you to a vet in your area.

How hard is he shaking? Is he just quivering a tiny little bit and otherwise seems fine?

I'm wondering if you're seeing the quivering that a lot of our gliders do when they first wake up? If it's right after he's woken up and is only shaking a tiny bit, and then stops, this is within the realms of normal.

If he HASN'T just woken up, or is shaking violently, or showing any other signs of illness, I would be getting him to the vet ASAP like TracieB said. Let us know what happens hug2

He was having hard, full-body stiffening siezures. His tail was twirling around and his back and neck was arching backwards. We just found a new vet and they gave him some valuum (sp?) to try to help him calm down. He had lost a lot of weight in the past few days.

Sadly, after asking the vet what our options are and how would he might be later on if we got him thru this, we decided to get him out of his pain and misery.

His girlfriend has a peanut in her pouch who unfortunately will not get to meet him.

Thank you for your input. I will visit this site a lot more often now that we have found this site.

James & Tammi

James, I know this was a hard decision. But the siezures you described are the ones that are displayed when the end is very near. He knows that he was loved. Please keep us updated on his mate.

I'm so sorry for your loss James. hug2 I don't know if you're aware or not, but the father plays a big part in the raising and care of joeys. As mentioned earlier, you can check out the breeding section here on the board for helpful info. Also, Suz here on the board has a wonderful site with lots of great information. You can check it out at Suz' Sugar Gliders. There's a section that talks about Breeding and Babies that will give you some general information on what to expect, and another on Hand Raising a Joey in case of rejection. Once the joey(s) comes OOP (out of pouch) you may need to 'babysit' the joey(s) some to give Mom a chance to eat and play.

So when you get a chance and feel up to it, be sure and register here so you can take full advantage of the board. Again, I'm so sorry. hug2

If we never loved, then maybe we would never feel pain. Love anyway. It's worth it.
