I will not go into much detail of her death. I will be brief. She has been moving slowly for the past few days and last night when I came home from work, my wife advised me that Jax was acting odd. She was moving slow (as usual) but she seemed normal. This afternoon when I got home from church I brought her some live crickets and she ate one. She turned down two and I placed her in her cage. One hour after that she looked bad. I took her to the vet. To keep it brief, the vet told me that what ever she has it seems too late. Most likely a complication from her age.She was not showing any sweating, urine or distinctive signs of illness other that weak and very slow.
The vet told me that it does not seem there is anything he could do, even if we ran some tests it would be too late.

She past away about an hour ago. I would love to celebrate her life by sharing what I know of her.

I found Jax(named "Angel" then) Through Viva la Glider's classifieds last august.
The Owner was selling her and her cage for $95.00. When I met the owner and saw her, I thought it was a waste of money. She was skinny, dirty and with half her tail cut off. I looked into her eyes and I realized she needed rescue. I took her home in her small cage and the moment she met Marble(My alfa male glider) they fell in love. Rubbing each others head and playing. She has always moved slow and clumsy but that never stopped her from eating. In fact, she slept in her food bowl. Later I learned that they do this when they spend too much time in a small cage and they learn to use all the living space available. She and Marble got their first bath tohether, That was a riot!
I thought for sure she would die soon. I did not think she would make it past November.
Last Month she went to the vet with Marble. The vet saw her and told me that she was older than dirt! he did warn me that soon one day she may not wake up. Well, That day came.
I know for what the last owner told me that she has had a very unstable life. No idea how she lost half her tail. It has been heart breaking to see her slowly slip away. I followed the vets recommendation and I made her last hours as easy as possible. I tried feeding her yogurt and BML. I never lost hope until the end. Her decline was too fast. Marble even spent some time liking her face and sleeping next to her. I placed her in a large plastic tub with her favorite sleeping pouch. I covered the tub half way with a black card board and I placed it next to a lamp to keep her warm as she slept. And sleep she did. I celebrate her journey through what it appeared to be a very rocky life from owner to owner. I feel so much pain for her loss. I am fighting tears. It is not easy for a 35 year old man with wife and kids to explain this. I cant think straight. I see marble looking for her all over the cage and it is breaking my heart.
My thoughts are very mixed and I am getting worse.
Thank you all for the support you provide to all glider owners. My heart is full of love and appreciation to all of you as well as for my sweet Jax. I have to focus on spoiling Marble more until I find NOT a replacement for jax but another companion.
It hurts and it will hurt for very long not to see my little tail less wonder!

Gil...
I am so very sorry that your baby has passed on. You did a great thing for her by taking her in and giving her a whole new life. She died happy and in love, which is much more than she would have had if you had not been there for her. It is a great thing that she found you, and you will find her again one day.

We all shed tears for the loss of a loved one. For such a small animal, they take a big piece of our hearts.

Gil, I'm so sorry you lost Jax, she sounds like a sweet baby that you loved very much. You rescued her and made her remaining time on earth so much better than any she had ever known, and she loved you for that. Celebrate the time you had with her and love her mate. He needs you now. He will also appreciate the new partner and heal.
Hugs to you and your little guy,
Chey

I am so very sorry for your loss. It is so hard to loose a pet. I am very glad that Jax got to experience your and Marble's love before passing. She deserved that and you and Marble are very special to have helped her last days be her absolute best.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Marble, and Jax,

Gil, my heart breaks for you and your family. I have sat and watched my 57 year old husband cry when we have lost a glider. I cry with him. I am crying with you now.

For Jax to have had such a rough start in life and then end up in such loving hands is a blessing. You are a great glider Dad.

Please let us know how Marble is doing.

Jax having only spent a brief time with you and yours will be deeply missed. She was very lucky as there are many rescues out there who are not so fortunate. The difficult part now is of her having crossed over...and the empty void that is left behind now. As time goes by....there will be another little glider....much like Jax...who will steal your heart as well as Marble's again. Till then...cheerish the good times you all had together.

Gil, I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear this. I'm grieving with you as are many of us here. Please hang close to us and remember what Ellen said -- Jax was truly blessed to have found you after a rough beginning. I'm so sorry.

[:"blue"]Gil,
What a beautiful story of how you made Jax's last few months on earth filled with love and care.

Although you miss her deeply, be consoled knowing how much you brought to her. What a wonderful day it was when you found her.

You will be in our prayers. [/]

I am so sorry for what you are going through as losing a glider is so hard. You brought joy to her life the last few months she was alive and I just know that she will be your guardian angel for life, watching over you and marble.

I, too, am deeply saddened. My thoughts and prayers are withyou and your family. You were so unselfish to love her as much as you do and take her into your home knowing her time with you might not be long. She was loved, and she knew that.
May you find comfort in the memories you have. Please keep us updated on Marble.

I wanted to express my gratitude for the support I have been given by all the board members. I still get teary eyed even at work! I work for a bunch of German Engineers who are beginning to wonder about my sanity.
Every e-mail and thought that you all have shared has been read (more than once) and it has helped.
I feel like I would be cheating on Jax, but I need to find another female for my Marble. I am sure he must be feeling scared and alone. Please keep your eyes open and feel free to e-mail me with any leads.
I placed a little bell hanging in the cage with the name Jax on it. It will be my little memorial every time I hear Marble playing with it.
Thanks again. Over and Over again...Thank you!!

I know what you are saying about your co-workers, I was reading your post to my family and started crying and my son (14 yrs old) called me a weirdo. They just don't understand.

Gil: even though you only had Jax for a few months, I am sure she knew she had found her true home at last. I'm sure she also finally knew what it meant to be loved. There is no greater gift you could have given her. To me, it seems like it was destiny that Jax came to you so she could have that gift of love in her final days.

Gil, I'm sorry to hear about Jax. It doesn't realy matter what others think; you have loved and lost. I lost a child several years ago, and someone gave me this advice. "Mourn until you feel like you have mourned enough, don't let anyone tell you it's time to get over it." Take care of yourself, I'm praying for you.

Jax had a rough go of it but she obviously found her "place" with you. Thank you for having the courage to take her in and love her.

I hope that you and Marble are weathering things ok.

You are a hero in my book. Thank you!

Gil-my heart goes out to you. I have a very ill glider and don't know if he will recover, though I will do everything in my power to make that happen. Your post made me cry again today. I wish you the best, and hope that one day another little precious glider will help to heal the pain, although it never goes away completely. I believe that the souls of our animals stay with us even after they are gone. We may not be able to see them, but they're there. Animals are Forever. I will keep you in my prayers.

Gil I cried as I read your post. I have lost a few gliders in the years since being adopted by my first glider Patty who was a rescue like your Jax she was in a small dirty cage, and once I looked into her eyes I knew I could not leave her where she was. Though you only had her a short time you made the most of the time you had I'm sure she knew how much you and marble loved her. May you soon find a companion for him. May your heart heal. Take solace in the fact she is not in pain and knew that she was loved.

Gil,
I am so sorry for your loss. I normally don't come to this board much because it is so heartbreaking. That is why this post is a couple of weeks late.I just lost a glider also, and I was teary eyed while reading of Jax. It is so cruel what people do to animals. At least she had you and Marble the last few months of her life. It is great that she was loved and knew it. Be thankful for that. I am sending prayers to you and your family, Marble included. I hope God blesses your heart and helps the hurt subside.

I, too, felt the sting of tears when I was reading the story of Jax. Yet, at least she died with you, safe and happy, content and knowing she was loved, rather that in that tiny cage with her previous owner. I hope time heals your pain, and you will remember her with great happiness rather than grief.

She was lucky to have you, and vise versa! I will be praying for ya!
