I'm posting this so that other folks avoid a mistake that I'm pretty sure created a potential health problem for Jojo, my little rescue. Yesterday I put her in her bubble without having washed it from her previous jaunt. After about an hour she rolled up to me and got quiet, so I thought she wanted out. When I took her out, her left eye was almost closed and the area around it was swollen. Also, her ears were flat and when she crabbed at me, her voice had no 'oomph'. She's tiny-2 ounces full grown-but she looked even smaller and more fragile. I swallowed my panic, called the
vet and his scheduler said he couldn't see me for hours. (Turns out the scheduler was wrong-when I saw the
vet today he said to come in asap no matter what the scheduler says) Jojo recovered within afew hours, but I still had her checked out. The
vet didn't find anything, but he agreed that a little dried feces (or anything else, I guess) that had been stuck to the inside of the bubble could have broken off and lodged in her eye. I'll never know for sure, but I'll also never take that risk again. Apologies to Jojo and the whole glider community!!
