68 to 75 degrees is a good range for the gliders. 60 degrees is pretty cold.

Our furnace went out last night. It was 7 degrees outside with very high winds. It got down to 52 in our house. I gave the suggies extra fleece blankets in their sleeping pouches and they kept toasty warm. I dont think they came out to play much, tho - their cage felt icy cold. I also heated their food and got them up to eat while it was warm. Our 5 dogs got extra blankets and they all cuddled together and kept warm. We still had electricity, but only one little electric heater - which had to go on our cockatoo, Sammi. We will be purchasing a couple more small heaters as WE were very cold last night. But all the animals were warm!!!!

I keep my heat at 69 degrees and I still put a blanket on their cages and I give them two fleece blankets for each pouch. And they seem to do fine.

I almost lost 3 gliders today and I did loose one joey to the cold. I keep my house at 70*, and the glider room is usually a little warmer since it's an add on and is better insulated. When I checked the gliders today I found Kairina cold and Donovan so cold that he couldn't even move. I immediately got them warmed up and got some fluids in them, and they are doing good now. Then I checked Katalina and Kashmir's cage to find one joey canabalized and one joey freezing cold and near death. I got the joey warmed up, fed, and she has been nursing from mom for a few hours now. I have always been told that 60-65* would be fine for gliders, but obviously that can't be true. It was at LEAST 70* in my room and it was TOO COLD for my babies. Sorry for rambling, but I'm still a little shook up over the whole thing.

Are any electric space heaters safe for gliders? I know there is a ton of people that are weird about heaters and animals. . .

They have the radiator heaters by kenwood at home depot that heat very well. I got mine for 30 dollars or so, and it is safe even if my kids happen to bump up against it - the metal does not burn you on contact like the small electric heaters with the wires in them that glow red... Its on rollers and has a handle and temp control so I can get JUST the right amount of heat next to the cages. The heater also does not seem to dry out the air. AND it will not "knock over" and start a fire... very safe for kids and gliders My Glider room feels like a sauna sometimes with just one heater on medium... but the Gliders love it! http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stor...ocStoreNum=3620

JrGliders - the link you posted does not work for me for some reason, but anyway I wanted to ask how that heater is on your electricity bill?? I've been wanting to get a heater for our suggies but it's usually so much on the electric bill it's easier to just turn the furnace up.
