So I am sooooo happy to say that Malibu is doing fabulous!! After two weeks with Ashley and just five more days at home all of Malibu's scabs are now gone and she can come out of her E Collar! I am so proud and happy I can't tell you! She now has no scabs left and her hair is growing back in nicely! For those of you that saw her before from my other post this is a HUGE improvement!! Wish me luck that she behaves herself and doesn't open it up again! I will be watching her like a hawk And her new friends should be home in about a week, so after quarantine and them healing from neuters, I should have a happy family of three!!!

Yes its all due to Ashley! She has a fabulous vet and really went the extra mile to help me! She's not on my side of town so I would have never found her vet. I took her to 3 vets in my area and they knew nothing!! Even claiming to be exotic vets. I will drive the 40 miles from now on for sure! And have found a friend for life in Ash!!

"Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy."
Well I took her out of the collar today and the first thing she did of course was go after her arm. She wasn't chewing as Ashley put it just licking but I got nervous and put her back in the collar. I am going to try again tomorrow and will take her to work with me nad make sure she behaves. Wish me luck and pray that she just wants to groom and not open it up again!

UUGGHH again!! Miss Malibu won't behave!#1211794 01/03/1209:07 PM01/03/1209:07 PM
SO I took Malibu out of her collar again and let her groom some and the only spot she wants to go after is her arm of course. In ten minutes she had the one spot that healed last open again. So back in the collar she went. I guess she's going to have to stay in it until the skin really heals over and has enough hair on it to keep it from getting raw in two seconds. AAAHHH I just wish I could tell her to stop haha but she is not listening!

I know I was so sad for her! But I jumped the gun, thinking that because her last scab came off that the skin was thick enough now. It is not. Another week, maybe more until her fur has grown back enough that she can groom it without it opening up again.

Well, finally today Malibu got to come out of the collar for more than 10 min. She's been out all day. Sleeping but still out. She groomed like CRAZY though and pulled out all kinds of little tufts of hair. I talked with Ash and she agrees to put her back in the collar tonight and not trust her up all night without supervision. I'll try agaian tomorrow and hopefully she's on the road to recovery.
Plus the new boys were neutered on Friday and all went well. Danielle has them for now and I will travel up to Havasu to get them so Malibu will have friends and hopefully not do this to herself anymore!!

Well update on Malibu again...first day out of the collar she did great. Second day not so much, she has pulled out so much hair she now has more balt spots everywhere. And that was while I was holding her. And she managed to open up a new spot on her side. So back to vet again today. Another fecal smear, no parasites, no infections, not dehydrated, otherwise in fine health but she won't stop picking at herself. The vet said she thinks she's itching. And she has been rubbing her nose through the bars of the cage because she can't get to it with her feet so she's missing hair there too...UGH
So the vet gave her a shot of Dexamethasone and she gave me a prescription for a antihistamine which I have to pick up in the morning because they didn't have any there in a small enough dose.
So wish me luck!! I don't know what else to do but keep trying.

Anyone had to give antihistimines?#1219583 01/21/1205:12 PM01/21/1205:12 PM
So the vet gave me Hydroxyzine for Malibu. She had a shot yesterday for what the vet thinks is allergies. She gave me a prescription for this antihistimine. I haven't given her the first dose yet. She told me to start in the morning since she already had the shot but I'm wondering if anyone has ever had to do this? I know what allergy meds do to me..sleepy weird feeling. Any thoughts?

I haven't heard of using antihistimines with gliders but I am curious about how they will affect her. Please keep us updated. What problems is she having that the vet thinks she needs these?

Just because no one has posted doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong. Go with what your vet has recommended. Hopefully someone with this type of experience will come along and share their experience with you.

Thanks girls. She is itching like crazy, even with her E Collar on she rubs her nose through the bars of her cage because she can't get to it with her arms or feet. The parts she can get to she scratches like crazy, so the vet thinks she has allergies. Not sure from what but I am changing her from priscilla's to HPW because its less ingreidients. Hopefully I can find the culpret. Wish me luck girls.
