I don't know if this is the right place to post, so please move if necessary. I've been wondering lately what everybody's emergency plans are for your suggies in case of a fire or tornado. Any good ideas? I have 7 suggies and I can just imagine having to shove them in a pillow case!

I suggest an Emergency Evacuation kit. I have one for every cage. It has the following in it:
Travel Cage with Cage set (one for each cage)
storage tote for the following items
extra toys,
food (baby food, dried fruits, etc),
bottled water,
water bottles,
food dishes,
clips for hanging toys,
blankets
glider care book (I suggest the one by Peggy Brewer)
childproof plugs
Hand warmers
pouches

Then I also suggest one Emergency Medical kit for everyone:
01. Q-tips [for cleaning wounds and applying topical medications]
02. 12- 1.0 c.c. Needleless Syringes [for administering oral medications and for force-feeding]
03. Pedialyte [for treating dehydration]
04. Esbilac Puppy Formula -or- Wombaroo Marsupial Milk Replacer -or- Brisky's Booster Milk [for emergency feeding]
05. French Catheter #5 [for emergency feeding, used in conjunction with needleless syringe]
06. Neosporin [antibiotic ointment for treating sores and wounds]
07. Neosporin Plus Pain Relief [antibiotic ointment with analgesic for treating sores and wounds - only to be used in conjunction with an e-collar]
08. Baby Fingernail Clippers -or- Cuticle Clippers [for trimming nails]
Sterile Cotton Balls -or- Sterile Gauze Pads [for cleansing sores and wounds]
09. Self-Adhering First Aid Gauze Wrap [for dressing wounds]
10. Spare Small Cage [for use as a "Hospital Cage" to isolate sick gliders]
11. Human Heating Pad [for heating the "Hospital Cage"]
12. Corn Starch -or- Styptic Powder [for treating nail bleeds]
13. Sterile 0.9 Saline Solution [for cleaning wounds]
14. Vitamin E Capsules [for treating wounds]
15. Tweezers
16. Small Scissors [for possible thread entanglements]
17. Instructions for Making an E-Collar
18. Moleskin Plus Padding [for use in making an E-Collar]
19. Molefoam [for use in making an E-Collar]
20. Heavy-Duty Clear Mylar (sold as notebook covers or as "flexible cutting mats") [for use in making an E-Collar]
21. Clear Duct Tape [for use in making an E-Collar]
22. Bird Feeder Dispensers [for feeding glider wearing an E-Collar]
23. Large McDonalds Straws (for tail injuries)
24. Microwaveable Heating Pad [for keeping glider warm during transportation in cold weather]
25. Several Large Fleece Blankets, stored in airtight bag or container to keep clean [for wrapping glider]
26. Flashlight
27. Matches/Lighter
28. Jars of Baby Food Chicken, Turkey, and Fruit
29. bonding Pouch [for confining glider during transportation]
30. Emergency Contact Card with normal & emergency vet's names, addresses & phone numbers
31. Map and Directions to Emergency vet Hospital

I had a fire last Christmas Eve. It was at 2:46 a.m. When I turned the light on (thankfully, it still worked at that time), they all jumped into their pouches to avoid the light. I have their pouches hooked with easy release latches. I opened the doors and grabbed pouches from four cages in about 30 seconds. I grabbed a special purse I use for carrying them all around with me, that has four zippered pockets and put one pouch in each pocket, zipping it up. I might add, I was calling 911 during this time, so you can see how easy it was for me to get them out safely and quickly. I commend you for recognizing an emergency might happen and being prepared for it!

oops, forgot to add that I keep the emergency kits under each cage and there are also bonding pouches to toss them in as well. I keep the bonding pouches separate from the e-kits though because they get used much more often
