My boys!

My boys! - 08/02/19 07:09 AM

I brought my twin boys home on July 3rd! They are doing great and I just got their adorable cage set in the mail yesterday! Leroy is much more accepting of treats and attention than Stitchy. But they both love their yogurt bites. Leroy loves mealworms as treats but Stitch hates them. I am now at the point that I rarely get bitten and they don't seem disturbed by my hands but not yet at the point that they can be trusted to not get lost in my room during playtime. They were 6 months old when I brought them home. Leroy goes out of his way to check me for goodies and will jump on me to get elsewhere. I have been trying to do more pouch time but this tends to lead to some crabbing. I just made my second batch of tpg diet and they like this batch much better! I want my babies to bond better with me so I can fully enjoy their company and they can feel comfortable and loved. Any advice besides continuing pouch time and giving them treats often?

I would do playtime in a small glider safe bathroom for awhile. In the morning if possible at first when they are getting tired.

Toilet lid closed, towel on the floor and under the door, look for any nooks and crannies they may be able to get in to.

Lights low(like a night light) take some treats and don't expect to hold them, they'll use you as a springboard to explore. It's their way of getting to know you without restraint.

Have their sleeping pouch ready when time is up and if they don't volunteer to go in the pouch, turn the light on.

We have a pop up tent which is a bit more convenient, and toss it over the bed.

At first I used a pop up mosquito net tent for playtime. It works wonderfully because they can climb all over the interior. I trained them to (usually) run or jump onto me if I extend my arm to them. I got a bigger one so when my nieces come over or other friends we can all play with them.

Now I glider proofed their whole room (they have a bedroom dedicated to them) and I can just open the cage doors and let them come out when they are ready. I set up the room with red lights which does not seem to bother them and they run all over and climb on me. I can sit and read or do something on my tablet while they explore and have fun or stand and be climbed and train them to jump to me. They love climbing on the outside of the tent too as well. I learned how clever they could be. It took me figure a while to figure out how the girls were climbing to the overhead shelf in the closet but she did and dug into the treats. At first I kept the light in the hall outside on to keep them from crawling under the door but the girls eventually started slipping out anyways. I put a towel in the gap now. I will often play with them for an hour and leave to get things done and let them have the run of the room while I am gone.

I also let one or two of them ride around on me sometimes when I am out. Arwen was in an out of my pouch shirt most of the evening yesterday.

Keep working on it. Just make sure to keep it safe and look over rooms they might escape to for general safety. If you can remember always keep all the toilet lids down.

Also, if you are in a safe environment my gliders like pouch time more if they can stick their head out and climb on me occasionally. Elric likes to scout my shirt and then crawl into my shirt and take a nap on my shoulder.
