Exotic Nutrition's Insect Eaters Diet - 08/25/06 04:51 AM

Has anyone tried the Insect Eaters diet from Exotic Nutrition? If not will someone please check it out and tell me what you guys think? It has whole insects in it and I think my babies would love it alot b/c it is hard to get insects where I'm at. I just need to know if it is a good diet for them.

I'm not familiar with this diet. Do you have a link outlining the plan?

[:"green"]I actually ordered a case of this to carry in my online store. My personal reaction to it was "Gross!" It smells HORRIBLE when you open the can and looks like a mass of sludgy dirt. However, the GLIDERS LOVE IT in spite of how repugnant it is to us!!! It is very high in protein and so if you don't have a ready source of insects, give it a try... Keep in mind that one can is a lot more than a single or even a pair of gliders can eat within the 10 day time frame that's considered safe if refrigerated after opening...

And BML smells like roses? I think glider food, in general, smells terrible! But my boys love their BML so far, so whatever works for them...

I tried the Insect Eater "stuff" you're talking about. Wait, let me rephrase that. My GLIDERS tried it. Disgusting doesn't even begin to cover it, and my girls agreed. They wouldn't touch the stuff. And like Suz said, it's way too much for only a few gliders. However, I think it has great potential as a diet aid because if you see/smell that when you open the fridge, you will NOT want to eat!!! I just tried it last night - I have to agree with the gross out factor. I opened the can and had to set it aside for the Papa to serve it. Talk about heebeegeebeez. Funny enough - Mo seemed to get the willies from it too! She hasn't had any insects yet - she seemed curious but turned off at the same time. More than once she walked up to the dish suspiciously and then jumped back like it threatened to attack!! It was hilarious - Nonetheless she didn't even take a nibble. So - we'll see what happens.

So far this preparation ranks as the singularly most disgusting product I have opened. My gliders wouldn't even touch it so in the trash it went. Unfortunately my beautiful standard poodle is not so squeamish. She dug it out of the trash, chewed the lid off and ate the 1/2 can (the can came 1/2 full). She had gastritis and black diarrhea for 3 days. It was awful. Just reading the ingredient list is enough to make you sick so I understand her digestive distress but I'll never understand her taste!

It states on the site that only 10 days in the frige,

</font><blockquote><font class="small">Quote:</font><hr />
Storage: Refrigerate after opening. Once opened, INSECT-EATER DIET can be stored in your refrigerator for up to 10 days.

Not sure about freezing it, but assuming that you can freeze insects, so I really don't see why you couldn't. You may wish to contact the site for that info though.....
