Flying onto my head?

Flying onto my head? - 02/12/05 04:49 AM

Ok, now Im not sure if I should interpret this as a good thing or bad thing. Well, Zayne just realized he can glide (will explain more in Glider Talk) and he kept gliding from the top of his cage, onto either my back or my head (and let me tell you, it was VERY scary seeing a little creature comming at your face). So should this be good? Like he trusts me enough to where Im safe to glide onto...Or bad, like he was trying to scare me so Id go away?! I dont know..

The glider's term for this is a face hug. It can be scary at first, but it is a show of trust and play. Try not to frighten the baby (in other words try not to scream and definitely stifle your automatic response to toss the little one ). I, by the way, did not learn about this (or stifle my auto responses ) and now my baby boy is terrified to jump to me. Oh well, maybe the new girls will soon give me the face covering hugs I was to frightened to recieve from my guy.
Good luck.

Oh this is a good thing. He trusts you! And as painful as this facehug is...the only silver lining to this cloud is that it means your baby loves you and trusts you.

Echo does this to me constantly. And the second a guest comes in....boom...instant facehug.

So as you apply those bandaids or neosporin..remember its a love mark from your baby and a battle sign he trusts you. Plus its a convenient way for him to scope out the surroundings..its like sitting on the top of a mountain..that moves!!!!!!!!

He does trust you, I used to love the face hugs, but they can hurt. A way you can try and redirect him from you face is by directing him to land on your shoulder by putting a treat on your shoulder and reward him after he does land on your shoulder. I does work.

He never necesarily landed on my face, but would have if I hadnt looked down, so he landed on the beck of my head, on my bun, rather then on my face. Id ont mind him jumping on my head or back, but man, the FACE!? LOL.

Yeah, facehugs are great....until they misguide their gliding and end up scratching your EYEBALL!!! (No kidding, I've had that happen to me! Ended up spending a week putting some gooky antibiotics on my eye & wearing sunglasses at work...NOT FUN)

The solution I came up with to avoid this type of injury again was to stick my arm out and eagerly say to my gliders "FLY!" As they were doing their preparatory wiggle for take-off, I'd say it again! When they did it & landed successfully on my arm, I'd give them a loving rub and "good boy" (or girl). It only took a couple of weeks for them to understand what I was trying to tell them, and I haven't had a repeat injury since. (My kids have also learned NOT to come into Glidertopia without having a shirt on----just took them ONE TIME! smart kids)
