My glider keeps saying "Schnit schnit schnit" to me tonight. Everytime I go near her. What is up with that?

[:"green"]If I'm right in interpreting the sound, (kind of like a cross between a sneeze & a hiss), it means "hello" in gliderese. They often will make this sound when they wake up in the evening...

It sounds as though your baby may be calling out for you to come and play with her! They will do that when they see you near if they have no others to play with. My Spike does it all the time!

But she runs away. She runs into a small crack in her room, and of course I can't follow her there. That makes it a little difficult, don't you think?

Suggestions?

Close up the crack so she can't go into it.
Don't let your glider run free yet if it just runs away from you.
Trying to catch a scared glider hurts the bonding process.
Get a tent or something of the sort so you won't have to chase and so she'll get used to being around you.
The noise she is making is probably a calling hiss noise as the others have said, but the noise they make when constipated is oddly similar, lol.
How long have you had her?

Sounds to me like the sound that joeys make when calling for Mommy and Daddy....

Actually, depending on how old she is...she may be in heat. I have one that will hardly let up with that for two days every month..is it somewhat louder than the sounds she normally makes? And they tend to be less inclined to be handled by their person when they're in heat, since you are NOT what they want at that moment-lol. That is what I am suspecting, at any rate..it sounds a bit different from their normal hissing, a bit more intense. And this sounds like it might be something she just started, from your description. If she stops doing it in a few days, then starts again in about a month-then there's no doubt.

I have had her for almost two years. We are well bonded. She is a bra baby. She has stopped making that noise in the past few nights. She is a sweetie pie - so many it was PMS. I will chart when it occurs again.

How often do gliders go into heat?

usually, about once a month (at least with mine, it's like clockwork), give or take a few days.
