A week after I received my gliders I took them in for their first wellness exam, after I found out Healthy Pet Vet Clinic was on the list of vets for sugar gliders, the first thing Dr. Christman gave me was a piece of paper with info on it.
Resources: North American Sugar Glider Association (NASGA) www.mynasga.org

and a list of pellet diets:
Harrison's Pellets 75% of diet
Glide-R-Chow
Nutri Mix ?
and fruits and veggies not more then 25%

I got home and checked the site out and was not sure about it. Of course I didn't like the idea of a pelleted diet so I chose at that time to but my babies on the PP diet.

I have switched vets and now go to UW vet in Madison Wisconsin and now my babies see Dr. Keller
She is a wonderful vet.

Has anyone else checked out this site? Are they for real? What are your thoughts?

They are also known as the North American Sugar Bear Association. I'm nearly positive it's run by P. P. P. Not a good place for info to say the least. lol

Ah yes. NASGA. They're from Pocket Pets. Of course the info is nothing but ICK.

NASGA IS owned by Pocket Pets.
I don't have the direct links (new laptop and lost all my other links) but I had proof of this.

That is what I thought when I first checked the site out. Thank goodness I didn't save it. Just makes me happy I decided to go against Dr. Christman and I am very happy that I switched vets. Thank you all for your input. I would still like to see what others have to say as well.

They are serious as a heart attack that their way of glider ownership is the best. I think there are a few pieces of good information there, mixed in with a whole heaping helping of junk. Do gliders have to be the hardest pet to own? I don't think so. But I don't think they are the easiest either, and yes they DO need vet care! But that's the magic of the internet, just because someone got it printed on screen doesn't make it true. We all have to do our own research, learn from others, and learn from our own experiences.

There was a post here a while ago about how it MUST be illegal for PPP to misrepresent their websites like this (meaning they call themselves "independent sources" when in reality they--all six websites or so--are owned and maintained by PPP). Did anyone ever look into that? Can we report them to someone?

I doubt anyone can do much if anything about the sites. The internet being world-wide, the US can only deal with a site hosted here, which is why so many US companies host their sites in other countries. I don't know that PPP is doing that, but I would highly suspect it. And mis-representing ownership or information is pretty low on the list of internet crimes as far as law-enforcement is concerned.

North American Sugar Bear Association ... That's a huge clue, isn't it! Grrrr! mad

PPP has recently been in our neck of the woods. I know this because I've had THREE ( count them ... 1, 2, 3!! ) phone calls this week alone from folks who purchased a glider from a local mall kiosk and ( surprise! shock ), the gliders have all been sick, injured, and/or completely untame! tant Poor babies!! upset

How funny they use the title names on GC on that website saying to stay away from these types of websites. TO FUNNY!

They are eagerly “welcomed in” by anonymous individuals with humorous (but revealing) screen designations such as:

“Glider Slave” - ”Glider Lover” - “Glider Addict” and
“Glider Guardian”
and even more misleading “titles” (which attempt to award some sort of “expert status” on their anonymous participants) such as:

“Senior Glider Member”… and “Master Glider Member”

Some of those family pictures also look familiar.

Psh anyone that has been to GC knows the screen monikers only show how much you talk, not what you know! Off topic - Rachel you are bringing some sugar combs to the OGG, right?

the biggest problem I have with PPP is how they push the idea of having your gliders bond to the other animals in the house.

I have personally been to their events and have seen the notebook of pics and have heard them try to sell to people using that as a main selling point, "oh see how cute that they ride on your doggies back and eat from the same bowl as your kitty" kind of thing and it makes me want to throw up.

I was telling this to a friend of mine and I told her how the PPP guys say that your other pets such as a cat or dog wont chase/kill them as the gliders "don't smell like rodents" and my friends says (and this is brilliant!) drum roll please...

"OH AND I GUESS LASER LIGHTS DO SMELL LIKE RODENTS?"

hahahaha
