I recommend wearing them around the house a lot before taking them out.
DITTO!
I think the most important thing is to know your suggie. They're not all the same. I have two - one who will go with me ANYWHERE and not make a peep so long as I don't touch her and let her sleep!
Kaya on the other hand sometimes goes through a "what's going on" phase. Sometimes she's perfectly fine being plopped in my shirt or pouch and she'll go right into a nice, deep, snuggly sleep. Other times, as soon as she's opened her peepers for TWO SECONDS, she wants to know what's going on, who's there, why mom woke me up, where we're going, etc. She won't climb out (usually) but does love to peep her head out which isn't always convenient (like when you're grocery shopping... with two HUGE BLACK eyes coming out your cleavage...
) If she's in a zipper pouch she'll bite and pull and freak out til I unzip it so she can gently peep her little face out. It can be frustrating, but it really is too cute
.
Point is, again, you just need to know YOUR suggies. I, too, was paranoid at first. It was winter when I got Carmella so every time I'd take her out in a zipper pouch, every five minutes I was undoing my coat, jacket, shirt, and pouch to make sure that A: she was still in there and B: she hadn't suffocated or been smushed. They're not as delicate as you think at first, though. They can breath fine in there and while they are small and fragile, a slight bump isn't going to hurt or smash them (like I originally thought!).
And if they make noises - just have fun with it! I like to do a little improv - whatever comes to mind. It's one of me and hubby's favorite games. Whenever one crabs I'll pretend it's my phone, or I'll grab my stomach and be like "WE GOTTA GO", or if I'm wearing a pouch under shirt thus giving me the "prego" look, I'll grab hubbies hand and be like - SHE'S KICKING! Or better yet, pretend you DON'T hear that growling coming from your shirt. No matter what it always gets a response that makes me laugh once I'm in the car. HTH
