What's the alternative? Personally, I would take them with me. They will be better off with you, than without. Mine are ticked after me being gone for 10 days.

I'm with USMom....I would take them with me if I went anywhere for more than a day or so. I took Batman with me to the ISS and he did just fine with the traveling and seeing new people, he was happy to be home I could tell but I didn't see any negative personality changes from being out of his home environment. Just curious about where he was.

Take them along. We take our pair camping with us. They don't get out as much, but we try to make sure they get the attention they need. We leave a cage set up in our camper and they are used to the pouches and toys in it too. Take grapes or snacks for them in case they get hungry or thirsty along the way.

We are going camping this weekend and I was also wondering what to do with the kids. how ever we don't have a camper we just take the tent. I could have my mother in law tend to them but they won't get any love. we have an extra tent but I don't know if it will get to hot for them in there (will prob be about 80-90 degrees outside.) any sugestions would be great thanks! If all else fails I will stay home with them.

I think as far as camping for the weekend with a tent, the best thing would be to leave them at home with the mother inlaw. Its one thing if your in a camper or a cabin but I think a tent would just be to much for them. They will be alright with you mother inlaw for a few days. I know its hard but sometimes we cant always take them with. Just make sure you give them lots of luvin, treats and attention when you get back. They will be fine.

Shawna,
Mine were too. I hired a petsitter while I was on vacation for a wk and she fed them during the day, but was too afraid to let them out and lose them. When I came back, my gliders were so mad at me. They pretended like I didn't exist. They wouldn't come to me, take treats from me and they'd run and hide if I came near them. I was so sad! They finally forgave me after their 2 day protest.

I take mine to Austin once a month, and they've even gone on a road trip to Dallas...with fresh water & snacks (grapes, watermelon) they do just fine. As for an extended camping trip & them having their own tent...I agree with everyone else on that...too mush stress. They may not get as much love from the M-I-L, but they will at least be safe.

I've glider-sat for a few people when they went out of town. Maybe someone close to you wouldn't mind caring for your sugs while you're away? Some folks charge a fee...I usually waive it because I have so much fun with their babies!

Sunshine, good call, 80-90 outside is 100 in the tent. Plus on the off chance of an escape, there is almost no hope of return. They'll be fine.

Koho, I take a bowl with a chunk of frozen cantalope, frozen grape and frozen watermelon and put just a bit of water in the bottom, that way if they wake up, they can have some very juicy fruit and not be hungry or thirsty, plus, if it spills, it's not lost, it's still on the cage floor for them. Frozen, it stays cool for about 4 hours. I have driven 9 1/2 hours with mine, one way. Just make sure you can cover the cage or carrier. Even with the A/C on, the pouch will get hot in direct sunlight.

You'll have a ball and feel better with them right there.

How are you going to transport cages, will you take them apart or do you have a vehicle that will fit them? I not, Kara at Glider Expressions has XL travel cages. I just got one from her and it's I think 4 feet tall, which is awesome, plus she includes a ton of fun stuff. They fold down in seconds and pop right up for you. I just didn't know if that would be easier for you, but either way, yeah I'd take them with me for a 9 day trip...I'd go into withdrawl lol.

I would just think ahead what you will do if something goes wrong so you can prepare. I'd even go as far as to just look up the number of a few exotics vets along the way and where you'll be staying. You never know!

Think of things like:
-Where will you keep their food? What will you do if their food somehow goes bad? (ie: gets too hot, gets in cooler water, etc.)
-What will you do if your car breaks down or you get a flat tire? (it's hot out there!)
-What will you do if one gets out in your car when you're driving?
-Are they illegal where you're going or passing through?

I think as long as you think ahead and prepare a little, you should be fine! GOOD LUCK!
