Senior Becca Fateley has a much smaller animal. Fateley and her partner, senior Riki Darrah, have a sugar glider for their presentation.
A sugar glider is a very small animal that resembles a flying squirrel. Fateley keeps her sugar glider, Viva, at home.

"Sugar gliders are nocturnal so she keeps me up all night running in her wheel," Fateley said.

Fateley purchased Viva at Scaly Dave's, the pet store in Aggieville. Viva, her cage and all the necessities totaled 400 dollars.

"I haven't let her glide out in my room yet, we're still bonding," Fateley said. "Sugar gliders need a lot of affection to survive."

Hello Mausi, welcome to GC. Judie has white face blondes that are just to pretty. I got my Gianna from her. Gianna is a 2nd gen. wfb. Judie is in the Kansas City area. There are quite a few members in the Wichita area but I don't know if any are breeders and if so, if they have colored variations. I would suggest a want ad in Glider Ads.

Oh, and I'm in KS too. I live between Louisburg and Ft. Scott right along the KS/MO state line.

I pick up the twins this weekend from Alycen!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/party.gif" alt="" /> I can't wait! I can barely sleep at night right now. I went out today and bought a Travel carrier for the trip. The holes on the door had to be modified. As well as a few toys. Tomorrow afternoon I will be bringing my sewing machine to the new house so I can start making lots of fun stuff for them. I already have the food including small mealies. My husband and I are probably going to build a really big cage for them. Until then they will have to go in the smaller temp cage. The big cage will likely be built with in a week though I will post pics of all soon.

Yah Dancing, I've read your page! I'm familiar with the area you're in. I've got some friends in Ft. Scott, I used to go down there to go 4-wheelin'

I wanted to talk with you anyway. My wife & I are considering a 2nd glider maybe sometime in the spring. We're really interested in possibly rescuing one (as with many who are interested in gliders, we're bleeding hearts & love to help out). I just read someone's rescue story in the chat forum & it made me want to do a rescue even more.

We're getting our joey from a hobby breeder. She & her husband moved down here from MN, he runs the salt tanks at T-Rex. They live right up the street from us & I found them on craigslist.

I think I'm going to pick our little girl up tomorrow. My dad's a college bball coach & they have a game tonight. I want to be able to sit around the house with a bonding pouch on the night I get her.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Gardner, KS here. My husband and I are fairly new owners. We've had our gliders for about a year now. We got first one when a friend was having troubles and couldn't keep her's anymore. We bought our second one from a breeder in Grain Valley. (My Little Gremlin) Both males now live happily together in the same cage.

Hey! I live in Manhattan too. I have never been to Scaly Dave's though. I don't spend too much time down in Aggieville since my husband is military. I didn't realize they sold gliders there either?!? That sort of makes me mad. I know I HATE the pet store in Westloop Plaza. Puppies should not be confined to a tiny cage all day long in a store. It's horrible. I hope they have improved things over at Scaly Daves also. If not, maybe I'll go look at what they have and see if I can help a glider out??
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: KANSAS - 04/17/07 11:57 AM

I have been to Scaly Daves, its a bad pet store, he sales alot of questionable "pets". He breeds them and really pushes you to buy gliders and buy his bml made up in jars. Be prepared to be shocked when you go in there Mrs. King.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: KANSAS - 04/27/07 06:08 AM

Hey, I'm currently in Manhattan also. I also found that "Scaly Dave" was pushy. He tried to get me to buy a bunch of different stuff that I didn't need. I also don't like the Westloop pet store. I tend to go to Animal House, but they don't really have sugar glider stuff.

Re: KANSAS - 05/03/07 12:45 PM

Hi Angie!! So glad to meet another person in Manhattan! I went in to Scaly Dave's a while ago and he didn't even have gliders out in the store anywhere. I thought he was a jerk personally! I walked around the store and kept looking over to see if anyone would help me and finally one of the store people came up to me and asked what I was looking for so I told them "I heard you sell gliders?". They told me I would have to talk to Dave about it so I found him and asked him if he still sold them and if he had any available. He said he does sell them but he only has 4 at the moment and that they were "at home". He asked what I was looking for and when I told him a single female he laughed and said "Sorry, I only sell in pairs... Otherwise I'd be STUCK with a bunch of males and what good would that be?" Real nice huh!? I didn't even ask how much he was selling a pair for becuase at that point I determined he doesnt really care about suggies. Also, another point, one of the clerks was going about feeding the many large contrictors they have and two were fighting over a rat. When the clerk was trying to get Dave's help to separate them, he refused to help and said "Just let them fight- I'm done caring about those two. They will probably just kill each other anyways". I WAS SHOCKED! I will never go in there again and I feel so bad for those suggies!!!

As for Pets N' Stuff in Westloop, they are ok. But honestly I don't really approve of ANY pet store that keeps little puppies locked up in tiny cages all day long! It's just not right or fair to them...

I also go to Animal House for everything I need and if I can't find it on there, I order it online lol. There aren't many options around here in Manhattan.

Also, Angie, I was wondering where you got your two gliders??

Mrs King,

I "rescued" my two gliders from a couple of girls here in town who rescued them from a couple that was mistreating them. So, I can't help you there.

Yeah, I got the "jerk" vibe from him too, but I can't believe what he said. I will NOT be going back there at all.

I agree, there aren't many options in Manhattan. Online is the best bet.

Re: KANSAS - 12/20/07 08:58 PM

thanks for the welcome! :-)

our little ones... lol... we're totally crazy about them! that's for sure! lol i can't imagine not having them.

our poppie has just been neutered today! yay! i just got off the phone with teresa (dancing) a little while ago and she says he is doing great and being his usual bra snuggling sweet self! lol she says he will just get even more lovey and sweet now that he is neutered, and i think that is wonderful!

we have mommie, she has 1 joey IP right now. she's a sweetheart also, but a bit crabby at times. she was the same way before her first joey came OOP. once the baby was OOP, she was all fine and dandy and would even let us hold the baby (from day 1 even!) while she went to eat or run the wheel.

and there is beanie, our 13 wk OOP joey from mommie and poppie. she came OOP just 9 days after we first got mommie and poppie! the previous owners had no idea that mommie had a joey IP, but we knew within half an hour of being around them. so beanie has been a delightful little surprise! she is just the most adorable and charming thing in this world! lol and totally rotten! lol she's our "barker" and will bark until someone comes to pick her up! lol

and last, but not least, is our lacy. she currently has 2 joeys IP! she's been a bit more of a challenge than mommie and poppie, but she has really come a long way! slow and steady progress makes us happy! she is a real character and has developed a "relationship" with one of our cats (jackie, a longhaired grey male) and its' hilarious to see them sit and "visit" with each other through the cage. they look at each other, and make little sounds at each other. if one of them is down near "their spot" the other one will come running and they will sit together for a while. it's kind of weird! lol but cute!

we have a young male joey coming to us at christmas time. he is a couple weeks younger than our beanie girl. we got him to hopefully be a companion to beanie, so they could grow up together. we'll be getting him neutered at the end of jan when he is 4 months old.

if any of the IP joeys are male, we will be having them neutered as soon as they are old enough. this completes our little colony and we are overjoyed with these furry little additions to our family. my mom is 80 years old and just recently moved from california to kansas to live with us. i was really surprised that she likes them so much too! beanie and her and really become attached. beanie goes in to visit with grammy every night for an hour or so in her pouch. my mom slips her hand inside the pouch and beanie curls up in the curve of her hand and goes to sleep. it's so sweet.

ok, you said you wanted to hear about our little ones... not hear me drone on and on! lol sorry! lol ya just can't get me started!!! LOL i'm glad to be here though, lots of neat people and great information! thanks!
