Re: INDIANA - 03/10/05 07:57 AM

Hey Indiana!

I did not even know this section existed here at Glider Central. Please forgive me, I am new to the community.

I have a question (also posted this ? in the "Classifieds Glider Ads."

I do independant Sugar Glider rescue work and I did not know if there was a demand for Sugar Gliders in the Southern Indiana region.

I am an experienced and proficient Sugar Glider guardian. Currently, I have three (3) gliders (two (2) males & one (1) female) who are nonblood related and I was seriously thinking about breeding them or help adopting out healthy, previously owned, unwanted Sugar Gliders to loving forever homes.

I have already applied for my USDA license and absolutely will NOT sell, breed or adopt out any gliders until my license is approved and/or certified.

All gliders have been examined by an exotic veterinarian and has concluded that I definitely can have a healthy and successful breeding pair, if I so choose.

However, I did not want to start a business if there was not any demand for Sugar Gliders in my local and/or regional area. I do not want to add to the over-population of these beautiful and gentle babies if no one wants them as family members.

Any interest and/or advice?

Re: INDIANA - 03/12/05 02:25 AM

Hello, Suggielove & welcome to GC!

There is an INTENSE interest in gliders up around the Ft Wayne area (don't know exactly where in the state you're hailing from & time is short: almost playtime!) I know of a family that's been researching about gliders the past 2 months, but has been unable to locate babies to adopt!! (my scratched-up hands aren't the only give-away when I go to the pet store looking for SOMETHING to help control those long nails---there just aren't that many breeders around here!!) I sadly looked at the lady & told her all my joeys are in the process of being adopted out....I never intended to be a breeder, but nature has other ideas for me I guess. (My son, who started me on suggies, is just delighted with the concept...not! Sorry, but these babies are SO much more friendly than gerbils, hamsters, or fish; and I can keep cat world & glider world completely separated!) Send me a Personal Message & let me know more details about your rescue project: I may be able to find a forever home or 2 up this way.

Re: INDIANA - 03/12/05 02:32 AM

Hello, also, to Nomad85!! (didn't mean to act like I was ignoring you, sweetie!) When I first saw your post, I laughed so much: My son's name is also Kyle (the creator of my glider-addiction) and I suspect that you're about the same age as my other son! Poor Kyle just can't believe what bringing one lonely furbutt home from work almost 2 years ago has grown into! But that's another tale, and I hear an exercise wheel going....both families are now awake & I must sign off!

Welcome & DON'T be afraid to ask questions! There are many experienced, loving people on this website who will help work you through the challenges these exotic loves will present to you!

Re: INDIANA - 03/13/05 02:21 AM

I just tried to PM you and currently your settings is set up to not receive any "Personal Messages." Are you in a middle of an adoption transaction with another glider member?

Sorry, I somehow had my settings changed back when I cleaned out my cookies---got that fixed so I can receive messages now.

To answer your question, yes I am. I'll discuss details with you thru PM's.

Hello...I'm from Southern Indiana (North Vernon) as well. New to the glider family. I have 2 boys that we call Chip and Dale but after trying to bond with them we have discovered they are nothing like their names. So we are trying to find new ones that match their personalities.

I received my guys almost 3 months ago. They we in a very small cage so I did my research on housing, food and all the other good stuff. They are now on BML, have a bigger cage, with lots of glider safe toys and Wodent Wheel and a tent!! We love tent-time!

Just wanted to say hello!

Melissa & Bill - Owners of The Zoo!
Members - Robert & Adam - Sons
Chip & Dale - Sugar Babies
Shadow & Philly - Dogs
Daisy - Cat
Pogo - 3 yr old Amazon Parrot - talks
Dundee - 2 yr old Goffin Cockatoo - just squawks
Fish - too many to try to give names!

Re: INDIANA - 09/29/06 02:32 AM

Now this is awesome to find this. The past 3 weeks I have lived on the Diet and Nutrition and Bonding forums. Tonight I started to look around more on GC and found this!

How much fun - when I was looking for a breeder in Indiana I found GC and I have gotten sooooooo much wonderful information here!

I live in Peru, Indiana - which is about an hour directly north of Indy and about an hour give or take a few (depending on how much of a "lead foot" you have) south of South Bend.

I have officially been declared incurable from glideritis - and I couldn't be happier with the diagnosis!

Hi all!

Welcome to GC!

I'm tickled PINK to read that you're as addicted to gliders as I am...From just one lonely little boy to 3 colonies (total of 12, and expecting MORE little ones soon), these lovely little creatures can sure steal your heart, can't they?

Feel free to post any questions/comments/concerns you may have as you enjoy your day-to-day experiences!

party Let's hear it for Hoosiers! dance

I'm in Ft Wayne (way up in the northeast corner of the state) but I've been know to travel all kinds of directions, mainly south! I trek down to Indianapolis on a regular basis...at least once a month...and wander as far as Tennessee (have a couple of VERY SPECIAL FRIENDS in Clarksville & Hartsville)...I go west to Colorado twice a year...and plan on going north to Michigan in just a FEW MONTHS (hurry up, calendar!)

All I need is a good reason to pack up my travel bag & wander off: suggie gatherings, parties, whatever...if this weather doesn't change SOON, I'll be wandering off in search of SNOW roflmao

Hi,
I grew up in E'ville and i'm just across the river now in Henderson with 4 suggies in the house. Could you tell me which vet you use? There aren't any in Henderson that will see gliders. We have been to Dr Butler. I just want to make sure we are were we need to be.
Thanks

Re: INDIANA - 05/15/07 03:12 AM

Laura.. I'm in Evansville, and my kids see Dr. Butler. He's definitely the best in the area. He takes some coaxing to warm up and have a little much necessary bedside mannor, lol.. but he's sweet on the inside. hehe.

Hubby and I might be moving north soon, due to some unforseen changes in our life, (not good ones, shakehead *sigh*), but watch out northern hoosiers, we might be moving into your turf. hehe.

Welcome, Welcome.. to the new Hoosiers! wave hug2

Re: INDIANA - 05/15/07 02:18 PM

Well I'm glad I chose him then, well actually it was an emergency and he was the one that could see my baby the quickest. My only problem has been out of 3 vet visits so far I have only seen Dr Butler once, but he is great about communicating thru email. Would you happen to know how much he charges to neuter? My daughter has twin intact males that are doing good together now but you never know when things might change. Hate to hear you might be moving. Hope things get better.

Thanks for replying
Laura

Re: INDIANA - 05/15/07 02:44 PM

Sorry to hear that you may be uprooted, Ames....

I know it gets rather FLAT when you get north of Indianapolis, but still & all the same there are some GOOD things about the northern half of the state...

How far north are you having to come?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: INDIANA - 05/16/07 12:09 AM

Dr. Butler just neutered Cypress a few months ago. With pain meds, the total comes out to about.. $130 dollars. He's very good at what he does. I would definitely encourage at least one of those to be neutered, BEFORE problems happen. It can go from good, to bad, to trouble, before you even know it with these guys. Good Luck!

Well thanks to Toyota not making good on their promises.. Hubby is going to be laid off any day now. It's completely changed our entire future, forcing us to look elsewhere for comparable jobs for him.. IF (cross your fingers and pray for us, lol), he gets the job he's wanting.. we might be moving to Lafayette in the next month or so.

We're not sure whether were happy about it just yet, ...or not. We're just trying to make due with everything getting tossed up into the air at once. shakehead But hopefully the pieces settle again soon. heh. Thanks for the encouragement guys. hug2

Re: INDIANA - 05/16/07 02:58 PM

You wouldn't think something so little could cost so much lol.

I totally understand the job thing, my hubby is a dealer at the casino and is facing something similar there.

Keeping fingers crossed for ya! hug2

Hey.. Welcome Amanda. *waves* Are you in the north Indiana Plainfield, or the centralish one? You're more than welcome to bug ANY of us Hoosiers with endless questions. We love questions. grin lol.

Well I've been living in Lafayette now for two whole days. I miss Evansville terribly.. but only because I was used to it there, and I'm sooo not used to it here. You wouldn't think the cities would be all that different, right? But they arrrre. lol.

ANYWAY.. I am getting adjusted to being a new northern hoosier.. (but I miss you southern Hoosiers, and Northern Kentuckians. tounge lol).

Re: INDIANA - 06/19/07 02:34 PM

Hey, if anyone in Lafayette reads this, and you have an EXCELLENT exotics/glider vet that you love.. could you pretty please pass that info along to lil ole me? tounge I will start poking and looking around asap of course, but sometimes, you just don't know who's good until you go, or hear from someone right? In Evansville, I went to four vets in one week until I found one I liked. Eew, lol.

There is more than one Plainfield in Indiana? LOL

We are near Indy.

Re: INDIANA - 06/19/07 05:21 PM

There is a Plainfield, Illinois.

I always have to specify when I post things for the rescues, that it is IL and not IN

Re: INDIANA - 06/27/07 05:49 PM

Plainfield, IN, US
Hendricks County

Plainfield, IN, US
Laporte County

There are two in Indiana as well. (I wasn't referring to the Illinois one). thumb

I would say you're the hendricks county one then, since that one is the closest to Indy, (I think), lol. You're about an hour from me then.

Another Hoosier! I'm in southwest Indiana in the little town of Poland. Smack dab in the middle of Cloverdale, Greencastle, Spencer, & Brazil. I'm going to be adopting two suggies in a couple of weeks. I am sooo excited! Also, glad to know there are more people from Indiana on here. Most people I know look at me like i'm nuts when I even mention sugar gliders. I'm hooked and don't even have mine at home yet! lol!

Hi carrie_ramey! I am in North Vernon. Not sure how far that is from you. Be careful, gliders are addictive! I have 4 adults, two new joeys and 2 in pouch! I love them soooo much, I spend as much money on them as I do my human children. Anyway, happy to hear that you will be getting your babies soon!

Hi ltlrdangel! I am probably almost 2 hours west of you. It take me about an hour to get to Bloomington. Also, it's too late...i'm already hooked! I've been on this site for awhile now and spend a couple of hours everyday just reading and learning as much as I can. I went nuts when the site was down! This is such a wonderful place with alot of great people!

Re: INDIANA - 10/03/07 11:32 AM

I went nuts when this site went down also. That is when two of my joeys decided it was time to oop. I'm am a first timer when it comes to my babies having their babies, so I was very nervous. I went to another place to ask questions, but I just didn't like it as well.
I am happy there are some glider parents not too far from me. I have heard of a couple more that are very close by, but they don't get on here.
Well, anyway....WELCOME and good luck! Are just waiting on the joey to be weened? You are getting a baby girl and her mommy right?

Re: INDIANA - 10/04/07 11:53 AM

I was waiting because I got married on Sept 29th and was going out of town. I didn't want to get them and then stress them even more with someone else taking care of them while I was gone. Now, of course, my emergency fund has been wiped out due to my husband's truck going down. There goes $1200.00. lol! It's either laugh or cry...personally, I would rather laugh! Anyways, now i'm hoping that I can pick them up in a week or so after my fund is built back so I can get Gracie(mom) & Chloe(joey) in for check-ups. Chloe was 8 weeks oop Sept 22.
Thanks for the welcome! It's good to know someone that i'm not the only one around here that knows about suggies!

Wow there are alot of people from IN! Way more on the site then I see in person though roflmao I live in a small town of Winchester! We're ten minutes away from the Ohio line, thirty minutes from Muncie, and about an hour and a half from both Indy and Ft.Wayne! I live around a bunch of people who don't care for pets so much, let alone exotic ones! Everybody loves it when my wife and I walk through town with 5ft. snakes! thumb Anyway, just wanted to say hi to my state! wave

I grew up in Deerfield, but I'd assume that not many would have any idea where that was. My fiance grew up here in Winchester. My folks opened up a business in Portland though, so I lived there for 2 years. I didn't realize Portland had gliders... I've walked around the fair with mine before but everybody seemed like they weren't familiar with them.
