Well, 25% of the year, you'll find me randomly placed throughout parts of Maine
100% of the year you'll find my grandparents located on the south-east coast of Maine. Joanna and Charles.<---They will be joining the board shortly!

So I'm not the only one in Maine. That's a relief. Karen do spend time in Maine or is the smiley face just so Maine would show up?

Re: MAINE - 12/17/03 03:06 AM
[:"blue"] It would have shown up without the smiley face, but it just looked so lonely. [/]

I know hardly anyone here has even heard of gliders let alone have them as family members. Most people think they are some kind of bird. I have met a few though, and I even see under the links there is now a breeder listed. Not that I need more gliders (we now have eight, Santa better not get any ideas about taking mine this Christmas to pull his sleigh)

Re: MAINE - 03/03/05 05:30 AM
for those of you in Maine...what vet do you take your gliders to? I haven't found one yet andI'm concerned I may need to bring my little man in for some tests soon. He's acting alright but having some male curiosity issues that are concerning to me. Any suggestions?

Re: MAINE - 03/05/05 03:13 AM
Dr Kinney in Poland, Maine is wonderful. (207) 998-2444. He treats all my gliders and has neutered 4 of my males. I hope your babies are all ok.

Jenn I see you're in Windham. That's only about an hour from where I am. If your ever in the Oxford Hills area stop on in.
We are up to 18 gliders now, with 2 more rescues on the way in a few weeks.

**sigh** I called Acadia Veterinary Hospital today and the receptionist didnt even know what a sugar glider was.
They refered me all the way back to Tufts University in my home town Somerville Massachusetts!! ??? Please tell me there is a vet who at least knows what a glider is a LITTLE closer to Bar Harbor than Portland! I dont have a car <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />:(:(

I'm from this forgotten state lol... Portland area. I'm a fairly new suggie owner, have had my little girl for just over a month now. I've wanted one of these furbutts for sooo long and I didn't want to get one from the pet store(do not want to support mill breeders!) so it took me well over 7 months to find her! But now I'm happier then ever with my girl<3

Anyone close to or in Lewiston area of Maine
I'm in Maine, on Vinalhaven island. No gliders yet but hopefully in a few months.
Does anyone have to have a permit for their gliders? I'm getting such conflicting information...
Graduated in 1984 from Gardiner Area High School. My mom and aunt still live in West Gardiner. I have sisters in Dresden, Yarmouth and Waterville.
Husband's parents are in Camden.
Yeh Gardiner Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Darn it! I saw this and got so excited, thinking there was actually another (current) Mainah on GC!
Danielle, Camden is so close to me! Do you ever come up tovisit your hubby's parents?

Re: MAINE - 02/10/11 06:09 PM
I am also from Maine. Waterville, Maine. I have a 2 year old glider named Leera. I would like to get to know other local glider owners to share stories and maybe some glider play time together. I only have a single glider, but spend loads of time with her.
I am planning a trip to Australia this summer, and will also like to make arrangements with some one local that might be willing to care for her for up to 4 weeks. Let me know who is out there... I'm right here!
Jeffro, I might be able to glidersit for you! I am out on Vinalhaven island. PM me here or e-mail me (the address is in my profile) and we can talk.
I am a small breeder and rescue on a small scale but I have a dedicated glider room and am very devoted to the little buggers.
For anyone else reading this, to my knowledge I am the only breeder in Maine? Please speak up if anyone else is out there; I'd love to network and chat!

I live in Biddeford Maine. I have been doing research for a while now on Sugar Gliders and finally caved in and joined this site officially instead of just reading it. I am traveling to NH this weekend to check out some joeys.
Not sure when I will finally find a place I trust in the area as this place I am a little suspicious of over the phone and looking through their website.
Very excited to be a part of the forum and to keep doing research and preparing for when I finally get some sugar gliders.
^^^^^^^^^^^^to IslandGliders, I joined after you recommended me to in an e-mail. I really believe you are the only breeder in Maine now. I finally got through to a place that I found online and after leaving multiple messages this morning when I was leaving another one they picked up the phone and yelled at me that they are no longer doing it.
Sounds like you are the lone ranger now.

I spoke with Maine Wildlife on the phone yesterday and no permit is needed now. I asked if I could get the paperwork and they said there was no point. Sugar Gliders are now on the unrestricted list.
http://www.maine.gov/ifw/wildlife/species/unrestricted_species.htmThey are listed in the first section part of the way down.

Hey everyone! Just a friendly reminder that State Roll Call is to introduce yourselves and say where you're from! That's it! For other topics, please post them in the appropriate forums!
Thank you!
Please keep the posts closely related to the topic. If the topic sparks another thought for discussion, please open a new thread. Post messages in the most appropriate forum. Please refrain from posting the same message in more than one forum. Only one of those messages will remain posted. Do not be offended if moderators move your thread to a forum that fits your topic. In a large forum like ours, this kind of housekeeping is necessary. It is not personal. Please do not use excessive CAPS or bold lettering. It makes your message very hard to read and implies you are shouting.

Oh wow, it's such a relief that I'm not the only lobster lover here! There seem to be so few of us with gliders in Maine. I'm in Southern Maine (go to USM and live near there..AKA Portland).
I grew up in Maine, but moved to MI and got married =) It seems I'm related to half the people in Augusta, and literally have over 50 first cousins who reside there.
I had never heard of sugar gliders until moving to MI, so it's interesting to see posts from ME folks who have them =)
Ah, I spoke too soon! Small Animal Clinic in Ellsworth has seen sugar gliders.(Well, they told me they have 2 exotic specialists, no one "specialising specifically in sugar gliders" but they said they have seen, by which i mean treated, sugar gliders before so they have some knowledge...) Hmmm....
mine was the first male they every neutered, this was many years ago. He did a fabulous job. He had the other vets (exotics) observe the surgery and learn. It was scary, but I'm glad I trusted, because he cares a lot, and did a great job! I'm sure he has seen a few since then

Rescuing my Suggies on Sunday! I'm located in Bangor, ME!
Dr. David Dineen in Gardiner had the pleasure of neutering my first bunch of rescue boys back in 1997, as well as learning how to fix their "ills." Many were very sick in that batch, so he got a crash course in the late nineties. If you live in the area, he still has his practice open at his home. He's been my mother's vet since 1980. He's a good guy.
