Arr Pirate's Cove

Arr Pirate's Cove - 04/03/15 11:05 PM

I've mentioned how I'm working on getting a pirates theme going in the glider cage. I've created a check list and have most of the stuff I need. I may purchase another item or two, and I definitely want to start working on a toy I have in mind. Any how, I've named the theme Ollie, Lulu and Skadoosh and the "Pirates Cove".

I'm hoping this will be another adventure story I can work on after I finish the ones I'm working on now. "The Enchanted Woods of Lulu and Skadoosh" Introduction and "The Rainbow Adventure" which will be when Ollie is introduced, since he joined with them after Rainbow Adventure.

I will post updates on the theme as it comes together.

Are you making the pouches for the new theme? Did you find fabric? Black, white red, and yellow? It sounds like it will be fun. I wonder if they have little anchors that you can use like monkeys? Do you already have treasure chests? Show us when youve finished!

Im very curious about the story. Are you making a series? Pirates cove could be really fun, they can fly from ships masts to the island and sleep in hollowed coconuts. Ok im doing that thing in my head again. Keep us updated!

Oh! Are you making it from a boat or a island angle? You could make a braided fleece sail shaped ladder.

No, I'm not making pouches or cage sets, or buying any. I'm kind of doing it island style I guess. I have some tropical toys already, and I have woodsy type fleece stuff that goes well with the "Enchanted Woods" theme and the "tropical theme" I've had going before. This one will be similar, but embellished more piratey, lol. I'll be mixing stuff I've had with some new stuff. I do have some small treasure chests forage toys. Two big ones are used in the new toy I made tonight, I have a couple others like them, that will go in the pirate ship most likely and I have several small plastic ones that will go here and there, including a play area.

I haven't set up the cage yet, I will probably begin it hopefully within the next couple of weeks.

Items I have so far include a braided fleece vine ladder, but it's not sail shaped. I will most likely use that and the mesh nest/play box some how, though not sure if I'll go play box or nest with that. It's been set up as nest, I don't think they're using much, so thinking play box most likely, and maybe one cabana. I also have a fringy pouch, bridge, and vine, so I'm definitely using the pouch and maybe one other item depending on how crowded it gets. I have a 2pc. PP jungle set that includes a hammock and a tunnel. I have some tropical style toys I mentioned, a new leaf vine I have in there now, and a small pirate ship (sand toy), I'm not sure how to use it, there are two ways, I like both. Their tree house will go in for this theme, it's due anyway, I've had Noah's arc in there for a couple weeks or so now. I made these tonight:

I've been working on the story on and off (mostly off) for about two years. I got the idea when I named the first cage theme the "Enchanted Woods" (The Enchanted Woods of Lulu and Skadoosh), I thought it sounded like a cute idea for a story. Then I created the the theme "Rainbow Adventure", sometime after I began writing down the ideas, and the Enchanted Woods became more of an introduction of Lulu and Skadooh and the setting, and then I started on the "Rainbow Adventure". I haven't finished it yet, but like to get back to finish, proof and then hopefully finalize. While in the process of writing the Rainbow Adventure, I got my Ollie boy, so I was beginning to incorporate him into that story. I haven't decided if I was going to make it into a series or chapter book, each chapter being a new adventure for them. I also haven't decided a few other things about how I'm going to write the final stories. Thanks for your interest.

Ahoy! My trio has arrived at Pirate's Cove! (I will make some adjustments most likely, I have to add the toy I made, it wasn't dried all the way, and maybe something else later this week).

Here are some pics before my trio hit land.

After they plundered and pillaged

The morning after the plunder, there were pom poms on the floor of the cage, which demonstrates someone used the pom pom pit.
This is the pom pom pit

This is what they did with the palm tree that was outside the tree house. Before and After

And the new toy I made is now in.

Re: Arr Pirate's Cove - 04/13/15 11:20 PM

Thanks, I like to really change things up every four to six weeks, usually when I do a steam clean, cleaning. I didn't take the cover off this time and do the outside of the cage all around this time though, just the front, and I did sponge down the sides on the outside where food is served with w/v solution . The cover will get washed next time and I'll get the outside of the cage then when I steam clean. I'll move things around and switch out some toys here and there in between to help keep them stimulated.

I really enjoy designing their cage, every aspect of it, from making or purchasing toys and items and then creating a safe and amusing place for them. I also used to love designing my lizard's enclosures when I had them. It's like an obsession lol.

Two weeks in to Pirate's Cove, I've done a little cleaning and rearranged a few things to spice things up a little.

Your cage looks so cute! I've had an ocean theme in my cage for awhile now.

I use this as a background behind the cage: Pic

Thanks.
That is so cute! Is it a shower curtain? I have often considered an ocean theme, and when I see some things out there that would look cute for that theme I always think I should buy it now, so I have it. But then usually my frugal sense kicks in, and I end up telling myself I don't need it right now.

Re: Arr Pirate's Cove - 05/02/15 07:47 PM

Added a couple more activities they haven't had for a while and rearranged some toys to freshen things up a bit. Contemplating more changes next week in Pirate's Cove, lol. Please excuse the messy floor (drop pan), I took the photos after wiping down parts of the cage and rearranging, but hadn't cleaned the drop tray at that point.

I removed the green plate, I didn't really need it with the awesome liner from Jana on the shelf. I also added a straw reset toy, and moved the ring bird toy over with added monkeys to offer a little change and new activities.

The treasure chest forage toy was moved to the other side between their perch and pom pom pit.

I moved the floor wheel over a bit more and placed their branch vertically again, with forage cups. I also added their fringy bridge under the wheel, a place to protect and hide their floor f/v bowl (I sometimes use corner hammocks and last week place under their branch when it was place horizontal.

Across to the other side I added spikey balls to the pineapple to create a new activity for them.

That sums up the changes this week. When I placed them back into their cage with the fresh pouch inside, they were of course having to make rounds looking for the pellets and papaya treats I placed around the cage, then went back to bed. This time I didn't take photos of them in the cage, but they'll enjoy it tonight, I'm sure.

Yeah the shower curtain is super easy to wipe down, since their cage is at the foot of my bed. It creates a cute effect so sometimes i see little shadows through the curtain, and little faces peeking over the top lol. grin

That's adorable! I love seeing my gliders peek over. My cage is in my room too,and I always try to have it where I can see them at least a bit. The best set up was in my house before I moved the first time. I hope one day to have the space where their cage faces my bed again. I use a colored night light, so I can view them without disruption.
