New Colony - 02/08/20 03:50 PM

Hi guys! So I rescued 2 sugar gliders that are male unneutered! I actually paired them off and added them to my original 2 Binx and Stitch which are both males! Binx is unneutered as well!

I introduced them all to each other last night! And all four went into a pouch cuddled and slept!

Then I noticed when I put them in the cage my youngest Binx who is 4 months old seemed a little stunned! And still wasn’t really interacting with others!

This morning stitch momo and chewie all went in the same pouch but Binx refuses to go into the pouch with them! He doesn’t ball up with them he just crabs at them. I’m wondering if he’ll be okay! I don’t want to stress him out! He was originally attached to stitch as a pair but now stitch is in love with Momo so could that be why he’s sad!?

What do I do should I be worried or give it time!? Since they aren’t fighting should I leave them all together or split them back into their original pairs!?

Or do you think it’s because Binx is so young!?

Stitch 4years neutered
Momo 1 year unneutered
Chewie 1 year unneutered
Binx 4 months unneutered

Binx being the youngest and probably the smallest, may not be developmentally mature enough to deal with two older unaltered males. There could be issues with heirarchy in the pouch.

How do they do together at night when awake?

Are you considering having any of them neutered?

I would watch closely with 3 unneutered and one neutered for signs of dominance wounds.

Thanks for the reply!

Right now they are all sleeping together in our carry pouch! So that’s good

I was worried about that being a problem! So I’ll be watching him like a hawk in case I need to intervene! If I have to intervene do you think that would mean putting them back to their original pairs!?

Binx runs on the wheel, and acts normal but freezes sometimes! Right now they are very busy scent marking everything in the cage at night since they’ve only been together for one night.

The cage is setup with 2 feeding and water stations so everyone can get food and water! I also ordered an aviary for them! So hopefully more space will help them.

I’ll look out for stitch, but as of now he’s asserted his dominance from what I’ve seen and he’s the biggest, so I’m watching the other ones closely in case of injury!

All of them will be getting neutered! I was gonna have Binx first but maybe I’ll do the older two first instead. Maybe that will help things if they are neutered first!? O.o

If they're doing ok together I'd keep them together. As far as who to neuter first, Feather will have to answer that.

Once the newness has wore off for them, watch for food aggression. You may have to separate food stations and add more.

I'm assuming you have at least 2 sleeping pouches in case someone may want to sleep alone. Which is normal.

Sounds like Binx is observing. He's learning how the colony dynamic is working. He is also learning manners. I went through this with Stewie when I introduced him to the girls when he was 4 months old.

Hang extra pouches in the cage, that way if they want to sleep alone they can.

Neutering will help greatly.

Oh okay! I’ll wait to see what feather says then!

So the other night, chewie started chasing binx and they balled up! I ended up seperating them back into their original pairs because I wouldn’t be able to sleep not watching them! I’m too nervous to keep them together! Binx momo and stitch work as a trio so we may just pair chewie off with another friend for now! Or reintroduce later on when Binx is bigger! But we will see! Right now it’s binx with stitch and momo with chewie!

they have about 5-6 pouches/ sleeping places! So they should be okay!

it does sound like Binx was observing! But Chewie still went after him so I got nervous! He’s still at least 30grams smaller than the others!

So Binx is 30gr smaller? Or chewie?

I would neuter the aggressor first so that he has time to get the testosterone out of his system.
