Ledges in the 'Sturdy Cage' ?? - 10/27/05 04:35 PM

How do you folks make ledges in your cages? I want to be able to put a 'glider kitchen' on a ledge for feeding time, and I wanted to see if anybody had some tips/tricks.
Would it be a bad idea to put the feeding apparatus (upside down rubbermaid bowl thingy) on the floor of the cage? Seems like it would be bad, to me.

Thanks for the help!

i belive that people do put the 'glider kitchen' on the floor of the cage, but i have also heard that some gliders do not like it there....

My cages have a few ledges and my suggies love them. The ones I have in my cages have a lip of sorts on each edge that keeps the dishes from sliding off of the edge of the ledge (rhymes ha, not intended!)...just a thought, I don't know how feasible it would be for you to incorporate a little lip as well for the same reasons..

I just put a paper plate on the bottom of the cage and place their food on that in small bowls and they eat it all up. It seems less messy for me that way. All the spitting is on the plate or into the tray.

okay, sounds like the floor isn't too bad after all. I just don't want them to have to come into contact with bottom grid too much because it will inevitably get urine and feces on it in between cleanings.

Another thing, on the 'Sturdy Cage' from SunCoast, what is the best way to keep the small 5" doors on the sides closed, yet functional? Or do most people only use the front 2 doors?

Thanks,

i have three of these cages and i never use the side doors, so i just ziptied them shut. there isn't really any need to use the side doors since the front allow easy access to the entire cage.

you can also buy ledges from the pet store in the bird section http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_d...D=1130777528963 I have a bigger one in my cage and clip their food dish to the side of the cage so it rests on the ledge. My gliders love to do everything up high. So my wheels and their water bottle and food dish is up high for them.

Gee, I bought one of Peggy's (Srlb) Glider Buffets, and I was lucky enough to win a second one. My gliders LOVE those, and I would highly recommend one (or more)! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
