Bird perches

Bird perches - 10/04/05 12:28 AM

I've recently purchased the sturdy cage from Suncoast for my gliders. It comes with a couple of perches. Are these safe for my gliders? I know only certain types of wood are okay, but I don't know what type of wood the perches are made out of.

Any ideas?

Thanks! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thanx.gif" alt="" />

I use them in all my cages and have not had any problems. I have 15 of her economy cages and all come with the same perches. I have to replace them after a while since they love to chew on the perches. Plus I got to visit Lisa's nursury and the two breeding pairs that she has in their have those perches in their cages. I think I would leave them in there. If its safe for birds its usually safe for gliders.

I believe they are safe. I work at a pet store that sells a ton of these and have yet to have a complaint. They are not made of neither pine nor cedar.

we used them in cage construction to create shelves originally, took them out because they got smelly after awhile.. but they were fine.. we had one in their plain at one point and they chewed on it a lot too!

Thanks for the info everyone! I also bought a "Critter ledge" that's made out of wood, but it was advertised for sugar gliders right on the package, so hopefully they know what they're talking about.

I have three of those 'critter ledges' and have no problems with them, also Badger loves to leap from one to the other. He also has more support on these than on a bird perch. I soak them in water over night about once a week or whenever necessary and this seems to keep them from getting too smelly.
