Chew blocks

Chew blocks - 10/20/05 12:17 AM

I think I may have asked this question somewhere else but would it be safe to give the gliders the little chew blocks that I give my guinea pigs?

This question has come up many times before, and for the life of me I cannot remember why it is a bad idea to use chew blocks. If they are wood...they *could* splinter in the glider's mouth...but hopefully someone will come along and give you a better answer. I would err on the side of caution on this one.

I'm thinking these aren't really wood, they are softer and come in a bag of about 30 that are red, blue, yellow and green. They almost look styrophome-y. I'm going to look at one that my piggies have chewed on and study it a little more. Do you know which blocks I'm talking about?

Well they chew on the sticks in their cage, so I don't see how it could be diff... But I don't know. I was just say.

The wood blocks seem to splinter in smaller, more fine pieces than the branches do. I've been kind of afraid of them since I discovered once some of them were made of fir or pine, which of course isn't good for the suggies. They should be required to put the kind of wood they are made of on the package, but don't always and so you don't know what kind of wood it is you are giving them to chew on. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
