I need toy suggestions!!!! - 03/31/06 04:31 AM

My gliders are picky. Gaz wont eat mealies or chicken, only turkey, and Cubby refuses to eat anything but mealies and chicken. So picking toys for them is equaly hard. They aren't overly interested in toys, except maybe the dya they get them, and then, I find all of them tossed into a pile on the floor, or not touched at all. I bought monkeys to see what they'd do and they loved them! for about thirty seconds. I do alot of my own toy maing because often I cannot aford to pay a vendor. I would like to get some ideas for enrichment that I can do at home. They ADORE their wheel.

Here is a list of things they actualy continue to play with...(it seems the more money I spend, the less they like it LOL)

Straws
Paper balls
feather teasers(Sometimes)

They are far less playful then Jax who's favorite toy was this plastic maraca just his size that her would sleep with and bonk everything with. I don't want them to be bored and I don't think they are, but I want to nip it in the [censored] before it does happen. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thanx.gif" alt="" />

my male had no clue about topys when I got him. Now that my girl has come to live with us he is starting to learn about toys.. But now I am having the same problem. I made a cocanut swing and that has been one toy they have to play in every night for a little while... Maybe they just like the things we make for them??? I know wishful thinking lol...

Hahah! I made a cocanut swing too! I spent about two hours drilling holes in the shell with a knife because the drill was dead LMBO! Turned out really pretty, I love it...They could care less unless I put a treat in it heheh.

In my experience, the most long-loved toy is a toybox. You can use a hanging treat bowl, or a cuddle cube, or a basket, or a bowl on the floor, etc. I put things like monkeys, cut up straws, a loose feather or two, fruit loops, a jingle cat ball, pieces of fleece, baby links, different things that are small and look like fun. You can also vary what you put in every night. They LOVE dumping the toys out everywhere.

Try putting a piece of chicken, turkey of fruit on the bottom arm of the barrel of monkeys. Then hang them all over the cage. It is more fun to find your favorite food than to get it off of a plate.
