The Tropical Teasers??? - 04/29/06 04:09 PM

I just bought this toy from PetSmart last night. Does any one else have this toy or know if it is safe or not? It looks safe to me, but this is the first time I went out and bought them a bird toy. I want to make sure of everything before I put it in their cage. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Here is the product description.
Tiki Hut
Coconut halves, shells, coconut fiber, and cotton rope .
Measures 12"H x 5"W.
For Cockatiels, Conures, and similar-sized medium birds.
Quick link for attaching to cage.
Also the coconut fiber can be easily removed.

It looks really neat... but I'm not sure about the coconut fiber (is that the things on top?), I could be very wrong, that part looks like it could tangle very easily. Hopefully someone else that has seen it or bought it will be along soon.

Thanks for replying! Yes, the coconut fiber is the things on top. They are kinda hard like straw. They are just tied on and I can remove them easy. Do you think that the cotton rope will be ok?

I personaly don't use any ropes in the cage but I do know a lot of people do, you just have to check it every day for any frays. I'd be inclined to remove the coconut fiber to be on the safe side, or you can use it for supervised play time.

Take a look through the Cage Pictures Thread for some ideas on what others are using in their cages..

Chaungo1, thanks for your help. Are the frays on the end ok?

Your very welcome .

How long are the frays? Anything more than a few millimeters and I'd be worried. It's very easy for a thread to wrap around and tangle on a toe, foot, limb or even neck. If this were to happen the results are never good .

HERE is a link to the safe toys & parts list.
