Ok, I have an idea I'd like to share.
Cube #1: I designed a fleece cube shaped pouch for my gliders. I cut out 6 squares of fleece. Each square is about 4 inches by 4 inches. A friend of mine sewed the squares together to form a cube. She sewed little ribbons at all 4 corners at the top of the cube to tie to the top of the cage. I cut an entrance on one side of the cube for the gliders to get in and out. And of course I stock the cube with several little fleece "blankets" for them to snuggle in.
Cube #2: My friend who sews then decided to make another cube that had a bit more structure. She sewed needlepoint plastic canvas into the squares so that the cube holds its shape when the gliders are in it.
[ 01-16-2002: Message edited by: KatieM ]

Hey Katie, those are really great ideas! I'm going to have a hayday at Hobby Lobby this weekend. They need to make a separate section in the forum for all creative craft ideas for glider lovers to share. I'd probably live in there!
Thanks a bunch!!!
Ash and Tink

Ooooh very good ideas Katie! Thanks for sharing with us! :-)
Its sounds Kinda like something I made for my kids . I made them what I call a "soft sided toy box" out of some red denim lined with purple plaid (sorry, but those red denim jeans I bought didnt fit the way the were supposed to, I didnt look like the girl on the tag wearing them thats for sure! LOL...So I recycled!) I just made a simple box shape (think a box with no lid) and sewed two loops on two corners so that I could hang it from the side of the cage....The kids have a ball digging through it when I put small toys/stuffed animals/ or blankets in it!
Heres a pic of it...dont laugh either...lol...this was my first sewing attempt months ago, Ive since figured out that my machine wasnt broke it was just me that couldnt sew a straight line...lol.

Edited to say, Sorry, I forgot that Tripod wont let me post a link to just "A" picture...lol.
[ 01-17-2002: Message edited by: bmxgirl ]

Re: Coconut House Instructions for those that wanted it... - 01/17/02 04:23 AM

BMX-
I have a couple of suggestions to add:
When I drill out my coconuts, I put them in the hole in the kitchen sink. It's just the right size to help hold them steady.
Also, I have found it's easier to get the meat out of the nut if you fill it with water, put it in a bowl, and microwave it for about 4 minutes first. I don't drain my coconuts before I drill the hole with the door knob hole bit. I just pour out the juice from that hole.
Just my 2 cents.
Michele

Michele, I am so glad you put the part in there about the microwave. I couldn't remember whether it was two or four minutes.
BMX Great job.

I made three coconut houses Friday and I suggest buying them for $3.50 each! []images/icons/rolleyes.gif" border="0[/] My arms hurt so bad from trying to hold them still while I cut them and who would have ever thought it would be so hard to saw through a coconut! The furbutts are worth it though, I am putting th houses in tonight and I am sure they will love them
