New How-To Videos! - 03/15/09 03:43 PM
As promised (a little late!), I have FINALLY uploaded a few new how-to videos to SugarSliders.
You can now learn to make a
zippered bonding pouch, a
fringe vine, or a basic
corner hammock Let me know what you all think! I hope this helps everyone out!
http://www.freewebs.com/sugarsliders/howdoi.htmAlso, I'm putting in a suggestion box at the top of the page so that you can ask me to make a new how-to for things I don't already have up.
In the future I plan to do how-to's on nail trimming, toy making, and other fun stuff.
Let me know how I can enrich your gliders' lives.

I hope it's done well enough... my lighting isn't great in there, and I was a little shaken up when I did that video, so PLEASE let me know if I missed something and I need to make another one.
I had to re-do it once last night, but I can do it again if it's not clear enough.

A cube huh? Hmmm... I'll see what I can do. Those are tricky and time consuming. It's going to be a 4 video tutorial at the least... well, unless I cut out alot of the sewing.
I'll give it a shot.

Amanda. I made my first zipperred pouch last night! Thanks for making the videos! They re so easy to follow. My hubby was giggling at me because I would pause each step and go finish it then play the next step. My PC is in the living room and I sew at the kitchen table so I was running back and forth. It was so much fun! Now baby Bret is sleeping in his new bonding pouch.

HOORAY DEE!
You should see me MAKE the videos... I'll get up and turn on the camera, turn off the camera, the bulldogs bark, so I turn it off, the phone rings, so I turn it off... it's like a circus over here and I never even notice it until I make those videos

I have a question about your bonding pouch..
When you are at the stage to sew around your edges could it be possible to leave the gap on the out side layer instead of your inside(pink) layer? then when you have to hand stitch or machine stitch the hole the stitches wont be where the babies sleep.

Yep, You're welcome to do that. I leave it on the inside for visual purposes, but if you feel that both your hand stitching and your sewing machine aren't getting tight enough stitches, you can leave it on the outside. It a rule to ALWAYS check out your pouch before and after you use it to make sure that there's nothing harmful to your babies inside, so if something should happen and it should loosen up, you'll catch it pretty quick. You also know how to fix it now!

Awesome. I like to play safe than sorry. I am not very picky on the visual of my pouch, I only obsess over the safety and the quality of life it should have
thank again for your videos they are so awesome. Are you going to do a bonding pouch with a window? I would like to get a peak at that too

Well, we have to leave SOMETHING to the pros.
I can't actually DO a zippered bonding pouch with a window.
Sorry, but the master can't do this one! LOL

Ok I am dying here. lol... I cant get this material cut right. Non of the peices match and it makes it so hard to get it sewed. How do yall do it???
I have been using the rotary tool and I still cant get it. Do yall have a stincle or something you use?

Re: New How-To Videos! - 04/15/09 04:53 PM
Shoot! I just eyeball it. I only use a stencil for the complicated cubes and pyramids just so the angles all match up.

Get a straight-edge that's square-shaped and about the same size as you'd want a pouch/hammy. Then you'll be in business. I have a long one that's exactly the width for vines!
MUUUUCH easier.

Re: New How-To Videos! - 04/18/09 04:33 PM
I can't wait to try out my sewing machine. I've been wary about it since I got it (afraid I'll break it). I've got to try it out though because I can do this. One question though about the bonding pouches. If you want to put the loops on all 4 sides so it can go around you how do you do it? I know you showed how to do the top at the zipper but I'm a little confused about the bottom part. I watched all your videos and I loved them. When I get one made I'll let you know how it turns out.
Thanks for being so crafty.

Well, on the outside fabric (usually cotton) you want to place the loops VERY close to the fold at the bottom, facing inward when you sew around the whole way on the edges. Make sense?
