stealth wheel up high in cage - 06/20/06 10:42 PM

ok i am going to buy another stealth wheel so my gliders can have races with each other ... i have one now mounted on the side of the cage but low .. my question is and it may be stupid i want to mount the other one higher on the cage but how do they get in it?? mine dont run on the outside.. do i need to put a rope close by so they can get on or is it just better to mount it also on the bottom??? told you it was a silly question...

I have mine at the top of my cage and have a rope hanging in front of it, Pacha normally jumps on the rope straight into the stealth.

Both of mine are up high, and they just grab the side and slip in while it's turning. I've seen PixTrixs' gliders JUMP OUT at FULL SPEED! Scared the bejeebers outta me, too!

They are very limber, and will stretch anywhere they want to go.....

ours are up high and they just jumpa nd climb in and out, I don't keep things hanging too close- the one time I did they pulled the vine OVER the wheela nd it made the wierdest noises and freaked me out until I realized what it was... because the wheel was brushing the vine as it spun thanks to where they moved it to...

When we had tiny little joeys we hung the wheel facing the wall of the cage but an inch or 2 back.. they would jump to the top of the wheel hang on, ride to the bottoma nd then climb the cage wall to repeat!

Now they use it as designed!

All I can say is mine was in the cage for 2 weeks and Pacha did try to go in it by grabbing the side but it seemed to un nerve him when it moved and he would run off. I them put a rope in and he climbed up the rope and jumped in his wheel. I think if I took the rope away now he would be fine as he has got used to it but it deff helped build his confidense in the beginning.

Yeah, I saw ShaunG's reaction when he saw our gliders jump right out of their wheel at full speed and I couldn't help but laugh. I figure, if they get such a thrill out of it, then why worry about it? LOL

In my husband's two wooden cages, where the wheels are attached at the ceiling, there is a two-inch strip of hardware cloth from one end to the other of the cage walls just below the wheel and gliders get in and out from there. But, I am replacing those two wooden cages with cages built with Klubertanz wire.

In our cages built with Klubertanz wire, the wheels are attached to shelves.

what do you guys use to mount the wheel on the cage. Do you just use a bigger spacer because the wire on the cage is too small for the spacer size...

if you mean mount it with out the stand there is a set up you can get from Miss Anita to do that. Mom hangs our wheels by zip tyeing the stand to the cage.
