the "silent spinner" wheel...looks safe BUT - 08/08/05 11:53 AM

I wanted to check to see if any of you have seen, heard of, or has any suggestions about weather or not this wheel could be used for Gliders. it is called the silent spinner My first concern is will they jump/fall out, but other than that it doesnt seem they could get their tail, or nails caught. The plastic is very hard, and I cant see my gliders chewing on it but I have Eucalyptis branches and nuts for them to chew on. This is a large wheel 12 inches that can either be on a stand or clip to the side of the cage. they have different sizes as well.
HAS anyuone had problems with the wodent wheel...tails being caught? Someone told me this wheel may be better and his glider was injured when her tail got wrapped around itself in the wodent wheel. ANyone with thoughts pro, or con, please reply or PM me. Thank you so much. Picture attached.

I have three of these wheels and haven't had a problem with them at all, you do hear some clicky kind of noises, but it's not bad. I even ordered nail o matics to fit in them.

We have a Silent Spinner for our boys. We bought the 12" version, and they love it. It's not as "silent" as the name suggests; we can hear their little nails clicking away through the night, but it's not too bad. When our two boys fight for a turn on the wheel, they can make the whole thing shake, and sometimes it will make some noise banging against the side of the cage. Still, it's not that noisy.

Your concern about the gliders falling or jumping out is valid. Sometimes, when one of our boys is in the wheel and the other wants to be and just jumps in, one or both will get flung out. They don't get hurt, though; they just grab onto the cage and bark at each other afterward. I'm sure it's all part of a never-ending game of tag they play with one another... heheh.

I have never heard anything bad about the wheel as far a safety is concerned, but I do agree that it isn't always silent. I have a hedgehog that uses this wheel and it used to bang against his cage all night long until we moved him into his ginormous swimming pool home! Now we use the wheel on its stand but we weigh the stand down by putting one large smooth rock on either side of it. I would suggest to do the same if you are using it with sugar glides just to be safe (only if you are using the stand instead of attaching it to the cage). Hope that info helps!

I love my silent spinners. They are so much quiter compared to wodent wheels, that have tendency to squeak with age. I know that my gliders enjoy flying out of the wheels. I have a few different versions and that is one of their favorite things to do..go real fast and then fling themselves out!

lolol, Pan likes to fling out of his too, and usually it's right at my head!
He's made a game of it when I talk to him and I put my head close to the cage.
He'll run as fast as he can and then "launch" himself so he lands on the cage right in front of my face!
Then he jumps around the cage and back to the wheel to do it all over again.
He usually does it about 5 times before he stops!
Anyway, I know my PAN loves his silent spinner and I'm soon getting another one.

Would anyone say that they are better than the Stealth wheels?? I just ordered a Stealth Xtreme and BOY I hope its worth it lol. Pretty expensive. I also saw these silent spinners but didn't know if they would be o.k. hmmmm...

You will NOT be disappointed in the Stealth Wheel, I promise you that . That old saying "you get what you pay for" certainly holds true with the Stealth . No worries .

I have 2 silent spinners and they are virtually silent, except you can still here the pidder padder of little nails. Nothing bad or that you can't fall asleep to.

I have had no problems what-so-ever with mine and my suggie sure seems to like it! :o)

Re: the "silent spinner" wheel...looks safe BUT - 08/08/05 07:45 PM

I bought a silent spinner when I first got Peeps, before I realized how big a wheel suggies need, so I got the smaller version. She never even considered getting in it, but she was just a baby then.

Ariana, I don't think anyone would say they are BETTER than the Stealth. You won't regret your order. I guess they make a decent alternative when price is a big concern. From what I've heard about the Wodent Wheels getting noisy, the Silent Spinner might be better than a WW if you don't want to spend the bucks on a Stealth.

I ordered a Stealth within the first couple of weeks I had Peepers, and never regretted it for a second!

Oh, and I think all three are safe. I heard about the glider who got his tail caught in the WW, but I think that was a freak accident, hopefully a one-time occurance.

I love our stealth and it works with the trim trax as nail trimmers so well that I can't imagine not having that for them to use! I'm so glad I didn't get another wheel for them!

I love both the Silent Spinner and the Stealth Wheel! Both are well-designed and are definitely safe for your gliders!

Also, I bought a Stealth Wheel at the SGGA this year and it works great, as well, and is definitely more silent than the silent spinner, however both wheels are enjoyed in this household equally. I suppose it's a matter of preference for whether you like something that is completely silent (Stealth) or mildly silent (silent spinner). Also, the array of exercises is broader in the Stealth Wheel especially if you own more than one glider, and the stealth may be somewhat less breakable (if dropped on the floor for instance).

I don't have the silent spinner but the one I have is almost the same- it is for hedgehogs, but Bibi flings out of it- she grabs on to it or she flies onto the cage. She seems to like it because she does it over and over, this only happens when she sees me there. Because if I hide, this won't happen. They are pretty quick when it comes to falling or gliding.

Re: the "silent spinner" wheel...looks safe BUT - 08/10/05 01:22 AM

I had a silent spinner - got the samller one for a joey- he literal ran it till it fell apart then got him a bigger one. No injuries and hes doing great. I have a WW...very noisy when used by my boys, got them a stealth - we all love it and my little girl now has the WW not so much noise as she is much lighter than my big boys... have found that using the stand then zip tying to the side of the cage is the best and quitest thing to do with any wheel. (Some use U bolts) Its all a matter of preference. However i am going to check out the light up wheel sounds freaky.....

Thank you all so much! I honestly didnt want to use it until I asked this forum. So many wonderful people, who always want to help others. Thank you all so much for posting/ sharing. We are moving in a few days and I got the wheel to use for the trip...the WW is too hard to put in and out every night. I tie it in 3 places and then to break down the cage I have to untie all the ties, and start over the next day. Too much work. Im buying a stealth when we get to OZ, I mean Kansas, LOL.

I have three Wodent Wheels, but I am gonna take a look at this Silent Spinner. Looks easy to clean. I am gonna get one of each, a Stealth (from where, heaven knows), but I am off to PetCo now to try the Silent.

An "independent wheel test" so to speak. Thanks to all who posted!
