Clorox wipes

Clorox wipes - 06/20/05 05:23 AM

After reading that several people here use Clorox wipes for cleaning, I tried them and they are awesome! Cuts right through the stuff that can't even be soaked off! What is even better, is that it works like a cotton ball test every time you do it! And, Spandex doesn't go crazy marking all the time after I do it. Question, can I quit scrubbing the cage down if I get the whole thing with these?

Which scent are you using of the wipes? I want to know the same thing about wiping the whole cage down.

Just be careful using the clorox wipes. They are not very safe to use. I know many people including myself who's hands have been burned by them. I heard a doctor say never to use them without using gloves so I'd be leary of using them around pets.

I do know of one completely safe cleaning solution but it may not get the cage as clean as the wipes do. It's these little drops called GSE (short for grapefruit seed extract) You can buy it at healthfood stores. You just mix a few drops of it with water and it kills germs and bacteria. It's a natural antibiotic and is completely safe to use around anything. You can also use it for all kinds of other uses.

I've been using it for pretty much everything now for a while and I love it.

Just thought I'd share.

Hmmm...Another thing to think about! The wipes (fresh scent, Gliderwoman) have never bothered me. I may start doing a rinse with a damp washcloth, but it has never bothered the babies, either.

Amy, why are they unsafe if they contain no bleach? Why are they "burning" your hands?

I use Clorox Wipes (Fresh and Orange Scent) for spot cleaning and then I use a product that used to be called Scooter's Choice that I picked up from Suncoast Sugargliders. It is a FANTASTIC cleaner that I use for the weekly cleaning. BTW - do you guys wipe down your cages after you use the Clorox wipes or do you just let that air dry?

I have just been letting it dry, I usually do it in the morning after the babies are out for the night (day). That way I don't have to worry about them getting into it.

I also use the freshscent wipes and I wipe my cages down everyday with them and then go over that with baby wipes. I have 8 cages and cleaning them drives me crazy but I can' stand their things to be dirty either. This works good for me and USDA lady liked it to. I take my cages to the car wash once a month for those deep cleaning.

Well, I will be going over mine with a wet washcloth for a bit of a rinse from now on. I have not done a scrub on the cage in about 10 days, and it looks and smells fine. But I am going to get up early tomorrow and do it anyway (too hot here to do during the day)!

Re: Clorox wipes - 06/26/05 03:32 AM

After I use the clorox wipes I go back over the cage with regular baby wipes. I have not had a problem with them waking up right after I do it because I do it in the morning or mid morning.

When you use Clorox wipes, just as with bleach (and it IS ok to use a bleach solution) you just need to make sure the cage has time to dry completely and it won't hurt them. I take my kids out and pouch them for the day, and clean their cages early so that they can go back into them at night.
