Idea for Pull-Out Drop Trays

Idea for Pull-Out Drop Trays - 06/29/08 05:35 AM

I went to the store today to get some sheets to hang on the wall behind my gliders cages. Well, it turns out that sets were cheaper than single sheets, so I bought a set with a sheet, fitted sheet, and 2 pillow cases... I got home and hung my sheet up on the wall and went to add the fitted sheet and pillow cases to my collection of random junk in the closet. But, I got to thinking... Pillow cases are almost exactly the same size as the drop trays in my cages. I pulled out one of my trays and slipped the pillow case on. It fit perfectly! So, I'm testing out pillow cases on my drop trays in a few of the cages. So far things are working nicely smile

Humm thats cool. I buy sheet sets to. I use the fitted sheet around the back of the cage and the flat sheet on the floor not a bad idea to use the pillow case to to *in my case* line the pan.

What size pillow case did you buy?

I have the 30x18x70 and 30x18x36 flight cages and I used queen/full sized pillow cases. On the package, it said the dimensions of the pillow cases smile I think the queen/full were 20x32 or somewhere in that range.

I just wanted to give you guys an update... After 2 days of having the pillow cases over their drop trays, I've decided that I'm going to switch all of my gray trays over to pillow cases. I have been using fleece, news paper, and puppy pads (varies from cage to cage) and the pillow cases just top them all. They are absorbent enough that the trays don't get damp, they are really easy to clean, and they stay in place better than anything else I have ever tried...

I'm thinking I'm going to wash 1/2 of them every other laundry day, until I get more pillow cases. So, about every 6 days or so, give or take... We'll see if they can go 6 days between cleanings or maybe I'll have to add an extra laundry day in there smile

Try shaking them out and spraying them with PureAyre between washings. It definately helps with my "cage covers"

That's a good idea! Do you think Fabreeze would work alright? I have tons of the pet type... With 5 cats, 3 kittens, and a dog in the house, it's a must, lol.

I've gotten sheets for as little as .25 each. You can make several pillow cases out of a sheet. It's simple to do, only two seams.

Awesome Idea!!! I'll have to try it too! Also...does the sheet hold a purpose for being on the sides and back of the cage? I know it will help keep it darker, and keep food from getting on the walls/floor...but what else is it for?

I just have it there to keep things tidier and to prevent my gliders from being able to see eachother. Some of my boys will sit there and crab at eachother threw the cage bars... Silly boys.
