Hello, Everyone. I'm just curious how many of you out there have only one glider? I have Stuart only, and he seems to do really well, however I am sure he would love to have a friend and I am working on that possibility but I have to have him neutered, and of course I have postponed it due to being nervous of SM. That worries and panics me. I spend time with Stuart talking to him etc... pouch time and fixing to start tent time soon.

Just curious who just has one, and how they seem to do alone?

While I do have 22 gliders in the house, I do have one that lives alone.

She isn't very social and she has beaten the tar out of every glider I have put her with. $1000.00 in vet bills.

They do better in pairs. I have had several uneventful neuters and if you have yourself outfitted with e-collars and e-jackets ahead of time then you are prepared for the worst.

Fiona was a single for 60 days(includes Dots quarantine)

We bonded and to me she was listless and didn't play much. She didn't eat well either. Since she was a joey, I felt she needed a friend because due to work, we may not be able to spend time with her like she needed.

I did have a selfish concern about if she got a friend if she would not be as bonded with us. I was so wrong. When the girls were introduced, it was all Fiona getting along with Dot. Then after a couple of months, the tables turned. Fiona likes her alone time away from Dot. Dot didn't take to that very well at first.
During Fionas alone time I bra trained her. Then Dot would go where ever Fiona was. She still does. We do spend more time with Fiona but Dot seems to be Ok with that.

We wonder sometimes if Fiona would have been Ok with being a single And then we talk about getting a third glider - neutered male. So we are still debating this. After reading about all the stories, I feel the girls would do better with a neutered male. Help round them out a bit more. Gliders are unique individuals, so it is hard to say.

This is our story, I'm not sure if it helps, just wanted to share our experience . Hopefully someone else can shed more light on this for you.

Wouldn't separate them now...

I had Steve for 8 months before I was able to get him a buddy, in that time I could see he was lonely and it killed me to have to make him wait. Valentines day we brought home a beautiful 8 month old girl. I had to have their cages in the same room because the place we lived in before had rats management would do nothing about and I have kids who wanted in the cage with her. After less than a week of being side by side I woke up to my once almost always silent Steve calling and calling to Talia over and over again, it went on for about two hours before I finally got worried he was going to hurt himself being so upset. I broke standard procedure and introduced them. He crawled straight into her cube and they have been absolutely inseparable ever since, one is never more than the distance between the food bowl and the wheel away from the other. I know that is NOT how that is supposed to go and I am not advocating for anyone to do the same, I'm just sharing our story.

I have just Stuart, have had him two months as of March 1st. He is aprox 27 weeka OOP. At this point he eats really good, loves treats, Spends time with me in his bonding pouch, and I go in, in the middle of the night around 2:00am, and sit and talk to him or play a bit with him, even read to him. read

I ordered a tent last night, therefore he will be doing "Tent Time" for the first time by Satu rday. Looking foward to it, Fun Time!! jump

It seems that my Stuart is happy, although I am sure having a little friend his own size would make him smile, and maybe happier.

I'm sure some gliders can be happy alone, but I feel the FAIR thing would be to let him marry. mlove

LOL I agree, Steve seemed fine (if a bit lonely) by himself but I swear even his coat is better now.
