Handsome guy. I'll be very interested to see how this coloration breeds out.

How's the little lady (sister?) doing?

Haha, I just looked at that old post about melanistic gliders, very laughable images. :roflmao2:

Seymour is SOOOOOOO much more cute! agree

Well Peggy, guess you didn't need to up the bid, you only had to wait 12 years!!

So, in that post about the photoshoped gliders, it said melanistics have dark skin, hands, under bellies... has this info changed over the years? I'm guessing so since there probably wasn't and still is't much info on them since they are so few and far between.

Re: Seymour the Melanistic Sugar Glider - 03/14/17 12:56 PM

The true definition of melanism is an over abundance of black where another color would be.
Be it skin, hair, feathers, fur.

Melanistic animals do not have to be completely black.

I have personally always thought Black face line is a melanistic line, and I proved that out by having melanistics born in my home. grin

Yes, years ago there was some scammers going around photoshopping gliders and saying they were all black. These guys, I have posted photos since they were out of pouch.

People who know me Takaia know that I am not one of those that scam. LOL!
Besides, mine are not even for sale.

Hahaha... No stud fees, he has his mate and if he doesn't like this one, I will offer him up a different one. LOL

Love the contrast with his light eye liner.

Very interesting info.

Peggy, I've seen a couple of your darker babies that you've either posted on here or on Criterlove they always catch my eye. I look forward to seeing future posts about him and what color variations this little man fathers.

If there's a list for black joeys I want on it. I still have one kidney that I hardly use...

Re: Seymour the Melanistic Sugar Glider - 03/15/17 01:37 PM

I no longer have the pairing together that produced him. And honestly we have no clue what he or his sister will produce.

It will be quite some time before they are available unless careless breeding starts taking place just because of the admiration for the ones that are out there now.

I, for one, am being very careful and only following the recommendations of my vet, who is in contact with a good geneticist, on breeding these two. thumb

Well, since he's already agreed to buy, mark him down for $1M :nanana:

I think I'll hang on for the price to come down, though rofl

Peggy: I hope you didn't think I was accusing you of scamming! Sorry if it sounded like that's what I was saying. My post about irony was about you having posted on that thread years ago saying you wanted one, and here you are.
