Back in action! - 04/11/17 01:01 PM

Ok...TwoDog is officially on his feet again. Leg is worlds better. (delete bear-poking)

Worked like a fiend yesterday trying to get this place ship shape. Got a ton done--Including prepping and freezing a 2 month supply of glider cubes!

(OH THE HUMANITY send me your vegetable and fruit dicing solutions! So tired of chopping.)

This new batch includes tons of stuff they have never had.

Sweet Potatoes
Kale
Peaches

They love the sweet potatoes and even eat the kale! (gotta get a pic of that) ;-)

Had to eject another mouse. Gave up on sealing them out. It's easier to control where the gliders can go from inside the rig, than it is to try and wall the mice out. But that still gives the mice access to the pantry.

New solution: Tupperware storage bins, coffee cans, and moving the location of where things are stored, should be much more effective in mouse control. (Also doubled my condiment carrying capacity!)

Anything they can get at is now in a can, bottle or otherwise mouse proof container. Bon' appetit, guys.

Hate to run them out. I wouldn't care; they don't eat much and they don't chew wires, or pee in the electronics.
But they are a health and hygiene hazard, and that means they gotta go. We have too many bodies on this ship already.

Swept, vacuumed (sp?) and did a full cage cleaning. Glider Laundry. Floors. This place is starting to look (and smell) livable again. Was starting to smell like Tommy Chong's jockstrap.

On track for passage day.
Hopefully tonight I will have some pics of some gold for you guys.

This is a wonderful post, TwoDawg (Southern drawl for Dog) smile So glad to hear you sounding so chipper not to mention full of vim and viggor

WOW, you sure got lots done yesterday for sure. I'm sure the glider crew are so glad to have you back.

Re: Back in action! - 04/12/17 07:45 AM

It's good to see you are almost back to your old self!

Plastic totes are your friend in an RV:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/jd9pi3nlejanrps/20170412_033613.jpg?dl=0

I would show you my kitchen, but we have 4 grand kids here on spring break and I have neglected it for a day or two.

These in 2 gallon size are also your friend unless your RV is in storage:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ta5bdpq80yb4u2d/20170412_034641.jpg?dl=0

They chew right into them make nests. Since I have re-washed the towels, they haven't bothered them.

I have tried to come up with a safe way to be humane and glider safe when it comes to mice. Unfortunately I haven't. Traditional mouse traps for me inside a closed off area the gliders cannot get to is my solution. I cannot set them free knowing they will come back if I don't drive them to the next county.

You are right to seal your gliders from the outside world, and deal with mice out doors or in your basement.

It was a joke about not taking the rest of the antibiotics because it was all better.

Re: Back in action! - 04/21/17 04:29 AM

So Comerade, what's the verdict?

Are ya gonna live?

How's the prospecting?

Feel better yet?

Are all the kids posing for a photo shoot?

Re: Back in action! - 04/21/17 12:31 PM

Hey guys...
Yeah, gonna live. Not going to lose the leg either. Got some nerve damage, can't feel some bits of my toes.
What's left at this point is a missing section of flesh at the impact site, about 1.5" in diameter. Concave, about 1/4 of an inch deep. The infection just ate it away like acid. Looks like someone just scooped it out with a spoon.

I keep a dirty sweatsock tied around it to keep it from drooling on the floor. <poke> ;-)

It's freaky...I can count the rings in my leg.
And it's left a big cavity INSIDE the leg too...
...Let's just stop there.

The summary is, I can't put pants on it. (yay!)
I also can't get a boot on it. (boo!)
So for now, it's going to be cargo shorts, 1 Batman boot and one comfy slipper.
But [censored]-in-chair time is over.
Over the last few days I have been working the kinks out of my water tanker system, and my grey water evaporator.
These have to be up TO-day or I will have to move the rig to dump and take on water. :-(
It's 360 degrees of desert around me. Almost no sign of man--save for my own tracks. Ended up with a sweet spot and no one else around--3 miles from the dig It's epic.

The solar system is KICKING BUTT, actually allowing me to abuse the air conditioners a bit to keep the temp down.

The new spot "panned out". Finally went through my samples, and my spot has gold in it!
Soon we will find out how much.
Probably tomorrow...when it's supposed to be 100 degrees.
Man, I just can't get enough of this place.
<ahem>

This mining spot was selected using the awesome power of SCIENCE. So I think it's going to have some good gold in it. Hopefully at least 1 troy oz.

Justin has decided he now has a taste for anything soap-related.

Aria is learning kung fu on my face

I think it's Aria...everyone is almost the same size now...hard to tell them apart.

Goals today. Bring in water. Start evaporator. Prep Bunny for first light digging.

I think Frisby may have lost the baby :-(

Good to know you're alive and kicking. Was really hoping to see a photo from you in the contest since you and Dawn really got the ball rolling on the idea agree

Re: Back in action! - 04/21/17 06:19 PM

Gold what is this gold you speak of, I think the only jewelry I own is my wedding band and it tungsten cause I destroy a golden band, heck. I got scratches all over my band within like 6 months wife was really glad didn't get gold.

Sorry to hear little joey didn't make it, but think of it as a practice run for when she gives you triplets lol. Be safe post leg pic sounds interesting and sick at same time (beat looking at a nub

Re: Back in action! - 04/21/17 07:45 PM

Your feeling may come back in that leg, nerves can take up to a year to heal.

I had severe nerve damage in my right wrist from carpal tunnel when I was 18, it took a year to get the feeling back in my middle finger and several years before I didn't have pain up to my elbow if I dinged that hand.

Be patient grasshopper.

Hey ComradeFluffyPants where did you go?

Re: Back in action! - 04/23/17 12:36 AM

I can see it now... Gold fever... Must not stop... He's working out there with those cheap little Walmart or Dollar General solar lights staked around him...

The gliders are back at the ship wringing their hands scheming away... Wondering how they can spend his hard earned treasure...

Re: Back in action! - 05/06/17 05:52 PM

Hey all!
Sorry I have been incommunicado lately.
Big moves and changes.
I will have an address soon I think. Landed at a nice campground, and will soon be able to get mail again--like that AWESOME slicer. I'm getting one of those. Thanks Dawn!

The leg is still a thing, but is almost better. It's finally stopped leaking. Can't go into the water with it still, but it's on the mend.

I need to think of a better story than "Dropped a Desk on My Leg." though.
Stampeding buffalo, ninja assassins...something...

Why do all the good scars fade away and the lame ones hang around forever?

The gliders hated me. It took three days to get here and for that time they were locked up tight. (can't pull the slides in with critters on the loose.)

Mama bit me on the nose right through the bars!

But we are settling in now and have mended some hearts with yogies and snuggles.

The dogs love being able to run around without getting pincushioned. And we aren't boiling alive.

Working on the story of the trip...now including my new ARCH-nemesis, Fire. And police, and parts falling off. And my new hero--Safety Chains.

And I am parked right next to Stef. :-)
7 gliders and rising...we are starting a convention out here. An army of angry balloon animals...

Will be on more now that I am settled.

Happy glider-ing!

Glad you are in a friendly environment for one and all not to mention parked right next to one of our very own. Must feel very good indeed. I'm sure you both have RV stories to swap and hints as well.

Good to have you back
