Krayola... one of my first 2 gliders is at the emergency vet as I type. I had to drop her off about 2 hours ago, as I came home from lunch and found her on the bottom of the cage floor in her barrel of monkeys breathing really heavily and her nose was blueish-purple.

Yesterday she got very lethargic, wouldn't eat, wouldn't drink anything but a little apple juice, and was having a little difficulty breathing.
So I made an appointment with the vet that is near my home that treats gliders for tomorrow afternoon. Well after coming home from lunch and finding her like that I had to take her to the emergency vet 30 minutes away because she wouldn't have made it had I waited till tomorrow I think.

When I left they were giving her some oxygen, glucose and they were warming her up. They said after she had stablized they were going to give her some fluids and calcium. Then they would be able to examine her. I'm really worried about her.

I'm supposed to be leaving to go to MI on Saturday at 5am. I hope it's something that can be treated with meds so my mom can watch her while I'm gone. I can't cancel this trip. This is the first time I've had anything like this happen before... so I'm pretty shaken and upset... do you guys have any suggestions? I'm just playing the waiting game right now till the vet calls me back.

Just leave detailed instructions for her- and leave the doctors numbers. when I had to leave my sick dog with my mom. I had my fiancee pick her up and take her to the dr. and when my mom could she would take her. I Ieft her extra cash to get her what she needed. and left numbers to the vets,

Court - be sure the vet goes ahead and does an x-ray. IF you're dealing with penumonia you want to know asap.
Sending hugs and prayers!

Court, if you are going out of town, leave her with the vet. It might cost an arm and a leg, but it will be worth it...

Or see if a vet tech wants to baby sit. Somewhat cheaper, but same benefits.

Well the vet just called, he's keeping her overnight to see if she perks up some more. So far she is still too weak to run thorough tests. His diagnosis so far is that her stomach is distended and he thinks it's either a blockage of some sort or a tumor/cancer, but he couldn't do much with her being so weak. He's going to call me in the morning to let me know if she is strong enough to run anymore tests. But he said it doesn't really look good at the moment.

He also put her on some antibiotics just in case it is an infection. He couldn't get good enough X-rays with her cause he didn't want to stress her out and giving her some anetheasa would be too risky.

Oh, my gosh, Courtney! I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope you can find the answer soon, and that Krayola is on the mend quickly. I guess there's not much you can do now until you get a definitive diagnosis. I hope they can give that to you soon. Keeping Krayola (I've always loved that name) in my thoughts and prayers!

The vet just called and she's worse than she was last night so he can't do anything with her but now he thinks it was a liver problem. He's going to put her to sleep this afternoon while she's not in pain. He's going to do a necropsy and send me the results. Thanks for your thoughts guys. They were appreciated. Hopefully my trip next week will help give me some peace.
