Tucker Update

Tucker Update - 03/01/06 03:20 AM

Tuck had surgery today. My doc figured that since he is stable, exploratory surgery to find out what is going on with him. Well, the fluid we were pulling out was not ascites, not an abcess, it was fluid from his gallbladder. The doctor removed the gallbladder, did a liver biopsy, and this is being sent for histopath.
We don't know if the liver caused the gall bladder problems, or if the gall bladder caused the liver problems. Only time will tell.
Currently, Tuck is in an e-collar. He is miserable. His little tummy is all shaved, and he is covered in blood. He went after himself with a vengance when he woke up from the surgery. So, he will get wiped down later when the torb kicks in.

He feels awful. I have his temporary cage next to his Reesie. They are staying next to each other. Poor guy, I hate that he's in an e-collar. He hates it!

Re: Tucker Update - 03/01/06 06:30 AM

Oh Shawna...I am so sorry poor little Tucker is going through this.

I do find it interesting about him having his gall bladder removed. I don't know how it will effect a glider but it does have some very unpleasant effects on us humans. I had mine removed almost 2 years ago. (Gallstones hurt worse then labor pains!). Having the gallbladder removed causes some really bad digestive issues.

The liver makes bile that is then stored in the gall bladder until it is needed to digest food. With nothing to hold the bile, it is continiously in the digestive track. This causes (atleast in humans) very loose stools. I suspect it will be the same in Tucker. Food passes through the system faster as well. For me, for about a year after surgery, I had to eat ever few hours to keep the bile from making my stomach hurt. (like bad ulcers) It might be a good idea to keep some zoo keepers in for him 24/7 incase he has the same type of problem.

Poor baby...

And Shawna, I know the ecollar is terrible but it is necessary for him. You already know that. It is horrible when you have to see that little face looking at you like you betrayed him. Hang in there and if you need to talk, you can call me anytime (913) 544-8090. Sometimes it helps to just know you are not alone.

Re: Tucker Update - 03/01/06 07:13 AM

When I had my gall bladder out, they told me to eat a low fat diet until my system adjusted, because the extra fat would require more bile to digest & without a gall bladder to soak up the extra it would cause loose stools.

Hugs to Tucker I hope he feels better soon.

[:"green"]Shawna,
You & Tucker are now on the way to full recovery... Knowing what the cause was & getting it treated are the first steps. Although Tucker is miserable in his e-collar, remember that it is for his best interest... Keep your chin up & call me if you need me...

Tuck went to the bridge this morning. I keep crying, I feel so bad, I hope he understands and forgives me for the misery he had this week.
Tuck, baby, I love you so much. I wish I could have taken your pain, and misery, and let you have only peace and happiness. I so wanted you to have a long and happy life with your Reesie. I am so sorry, baby.

Oh Shawna! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crying.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crying.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crying.gif" alt="" /> I'm so sorry for Tucker! But he is whole and healthy now and will be well taken care of.

You did all you could for him and I know he knew you were only trying to help him. There is nothing for him to forgive you for. You gave him love and that is what he took with him. Please find peace that you did try everything for him...

I'm so sorry...I will move this to Real Stories now in the hopes that Tucker's story will help other's. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crying.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crying.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crying.gif" alt="" />

Re: Tucker Update - 03/03/06 08:29 PM

I don't think I will have a necropsy done. They took liver during his surgery for biopsy. I don't want them to cut him anymore. He's had enough.

Oh, Shawna...I'm so sorry. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hug2.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hug2.gif" alt="" /> Like I said on the phone, tho, he KNEW you were helping, and he does forgive you and love you because he knows you were acting for his benefit. He will wait for you at the bridge, and will be happy when you arrive someday, with no thought of what happened before he got there, because he KNOWS. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hug2.gif" alt="" />

Oh Shawna, I'm so very sorry about Tucker. I know how hard you were pulling for him to get better and I know he appreciates all that you did.

THE RAINBOW BECKONS

In loving memory of my angels who have crossed over the rainbow bridge

The rainbow has beckoned
It's calling you home
To meadows and forest
In which you may roam

My heart it grows heavy
To think you might leave
I'd be all alone then
Alone then to grieve

I know deep inside me
That you cannot stay
The pain that you're feeling
Grows more night and day

You look at me asking
In your silent way
To let you go home now
"Please let me" you say

You say there's no pain there
No fear and no hate
Just peace and well being
Once you're through the gate

You tell me you'll always
Hold me in your heart
That time and that distance
Can't keep us apart

And if I should need you
At my side you'll be
Tho I cannot see you
You'll be there with me

You promise to wait at
the rainbow for me
To wait `til I join you
Together to be

I just want to hold you
And beg you to stay
To ask please don't leave me
Alone on this day

Yet deep in my heart know
I must let you go
You must make the journey
now to the rainbow

I bow down my head then
The tears fill my eyes
I give you my blessing
My love now to fly

So fly to the rainbow
And wait there for me
Some day I will join you
Together to be

Chris, thank you for the poem. I wish I had been thinking of that when it was his time, instead of trying to make him stay with me. It is still very hard to think of him.

I know how hard it is to let them go. You want to give them every chance in the world if they are still willing to fight for it.

Shawna...

NO! That's all I could think when I saw that this post had been moved. I'm so sorry. He sure was a handsome little guy...with lots and lots of personality.

Sending lots of love to you and Reese. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" />

[:"green"]Shawna,
My deepest sympathies are with you <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crying.gif" alt="" />. You tried everything you could to keep him here with you, but it was his time to go to the Bridge. Know that now he is chittering and barking and happily playing with all those who have gone before him. When he got there he was welcomed with snuggles & love by them all <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" />. Although your heart is heavy, his is light and happy now...
